Thanks for this site, i wish i'd seen it prior to signing up....i am lucky in that i have only paid for the so called 8meg connection through my mobile contract but i still want to leave if possible. My connection has died while posting!!
I ve been doing as much research as possible before i post.
Basically my speeds are terrible and i have been very frustrated with the customer service/tech support.
I feel like i ve stepped back to my first dial up connection all those years ago...i can't even watch youtube videos!
My stats are:
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 5.9
Attenuation (dB) : 53.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 5408
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 5376 288
I'm still in the first month of my deal with Orange and have only had the live box up and running for a few days, i get the sinking feeling that i'm too late to pull out of my contract.
Ring Orange and get your MAC code, then move to a real ISP.
As Orange are not providing you with the service you pay for it means the contract has been broken.
COntracts work both ways.
They have to give you a MAC by law, regardless of any contract remaining.
Cosmicdance whilst I appreciate your post i was looking for some advice.
Does anyone have experience of cancelling their contract with Orange quite quickly after getiing set up? Is it as easy as cosmicdance has been stating: ie. I just have to say they have not fufilled their part of the contract? I understan i can get the MAC code but i also understand this is definitely NOT the termination of contract.
Can anyone recommend if i am definitely on LLU with the stats i posted and what would be my best course of action.
I contintually have to repair my wireless connection because of disconnects. this coupled with the ridiculous speeds makes downloading anything and watching anything frustratingly impossible.
Looks like you're on LLU.
Your Noise Margin is very low and your Attenuation is very high. You're probably >2.5km from your exchange.
There are a number of "repairs" that you can try :-
1. Read MTU/RWIN link on here.
2. Use OpenDNS settings in Internet Protocol properties (TCP/IP)
3. Test your connection by using the test socket inside the main BT linebox without using a filter.
4. Check your BT linebox and extension box, are there more than just 2 and 5 connected ?....if so gently remove the others.
