I have several freeserve/wanadoo email accounts but do not use Orange broadband or dial-up. I have been accessing my emails via Virgin Broadband using MS Outlook without any problems. I recently received the following message:
-------------------------------------------------
Hello,
We've noticed that you're not dialing into your Pay As You Go Internet account, but you're still accessing your Orange emails through our Webmail service. For you to continue to use your Pay As You Go account, we need you to dial in to it or retrieve it regularly to keep it active. This is normally at least once every 210 days. If you access your email through our Webmail service, this doesn't count.
If you don't dial in or retrieve your Pay As You Go account to keep it active, then your account will be deleted, which also means you'll lose your email address and everything in it.
To keep your Pay As You Go Internet service account and email address open, click here now to retrieve your account.
If you don't do this within the next 40 days, your Pay As You Go account and emails will be permanently deleted and all contents will be permanently lost.
------------------------------------------
As I understand it, unless I return to a dial-up service with Orange and use it once every 210 days, my accounts will be deleted. Even if I access via webmail this won't keep my account open.
Are there any alternative ways to keep my accounts open?
Is this a new system Orange has implemented? - any idea why?
Thanks, this is the first time I've had this email from Orange.
In the past I have needed to reactivate my account by updating my password after being locked out every so often.
Don't know if this would still work?
If not I'll have to dig out my modem lead!
Anyone know the latest dial up number?

No you do not have to return to dial up, just follow the link below and it explains.
This has always been the case and not something new.
If you are on broadband they can link you dial up
email account to you broadband account to stop
this happening. Elhana will be along I am sure
and give you more details

Ahh thats better once I fixed that link messing up the page formatting.
Ok, it's always been this way as already mentioned. Dialup accounts, or old paid for accounts (Anytime or Broadband) suspend, expire and then get deleted after a set time. This actually changed for the better a couple of months ago meaning it would run for longer before suspending.
There's two methods of keeping an account like this open.
1. Dial up to it. Simply establish a connection open a webpage to make sure it's working and then disconnect is enough every few months.
2. Retrieve the account through the website, which can be done through any connection providing you can get to the Orange website.

This link should explain the details along with linking to the retrieval process. Any retrieval button should work as they're technically the same link, the suspended one gives the most relevant details though.
Account linking... simple answer, it doesn't happen. Accounts can be upgraded to broadband or anytime, in that status they don't suspend normally. If a broadband or anytime account is cancelled it returns to pay as you go status and suspends normally after 219 days. Accounts cannot be linked to existing broadband or Anytime accounts. Anytime isn't so much of a problem as they can be closed and reopened with the right address relatively easily in comparison to broadband.
Orange don't seem to want to publicise the number, do they?! The link above relates to configuring the dial up settings using Vista - Orange's ins file probably won't work on Vista, I guess.
