This is the 3rd time and I cannot even be bothered phoning Orange and waiting for centuries. I was wondering if there was a way in which I could fix it?
Last time I called
"We'll call you back tommorow"
- A week later
( Me ) "I thought you were phoning"
( Op ) "Yes we were doing line tests"
- These line tests lasted ages, and by the end of it I wasn't even happy when it was eventually fixed as I was so angry.

These problems can sometimes be cured:
PPP SERVER DOWN
This is is generally a network/exchange fault.
First re-enter your username and password.
Others have solved this by installing another router or their Speedtouch 330 modem instead of Livebox - getting a connection - disconnecting - then going back to Livebox. There are several reports of this working. It appears that the network and Livebox jam up.
Others have also solved the problem by changing the normal settings:
From my own experience with Orange's broadband 'service' when they have said they're doing line tests it was just an excuse to stall me.
Some of their many set scripts were 'ring back in 48 hours' or 'there is a fault with your line' or 'we are waiting for BT to fix the line fault.
After waiting 2 weeks without a connection and ringing BT twice myself, who told me their was no fault and no fault reported by Orange, I left Orange.
I then joined Idnet's broadband and the mysterious 'line fault' disappeared instantly.
Never lost my connection once since last September and it's fast, reliable, run by people who speak English & care.
Just my own experience yet I'm one of the masses who post back here after leaving Orange and suddenly get a stable connection.
Maybe line faults are coincidental with Orange broadband or maybe they're an excuse.
I decided they were an excuse and confirmed by many others similar experiences.
Just my own view but always worth sharing as some companies care about customers and others care about the money they get from them only.
Like you say though keithwjones - some people do solve the problem by using a router or changing their own settings.
If only you have a different modem - yes, it's very likely you can. People report Belkin, Speedtouch, I used Dlink - it seems it doesn't really matter what modem it is (as long as it's not livebox ).
The keywords are PPPoA and PPPoE. You'll find that somewhere in configuration of your rescue-modem. You might need to set PPPoE, connect, then PPPoA and connect - generally if the rescue-modem connects in both protocols, use PPPoA as your last connection mode, disconnect rescue-modem and connect Livebox. Should be fine.
