Hi, I'm trying to hook up my brand new computer to Orange using a Talk Talk branded philips SNA5630NS/05 wireless modem router, and having a few problems. I'm getting through most of the installation fine; I can get the computer to communicate to the router via the usb wireless adapter or via an ethernet cable and it all works fine up to then. However, then, it asks me to put my Orange details in. So, i put in my username and password and all the details provided on the Orange website (Encapsulation and all that stuff), but when it asks me to enter the ISP it has losts of options, including Wanadoo and "other ISP". I have tweaked the settings to no end and every time it comes up with the message :
No adsl connection could be initiated, please check your username and password are correct and that your ADSL line is plugged in properly.
I know that the username and password are correct because I got them to work with the old router, which is how i am posting this now, and because of the same reason I know the ADSL line is fine. It all seemed to be working though, except for the connection, so i tried to just set it up with the "internet options" tab on the control panel. However, the computer won't recognize the router as a modem, so i can't tell it to connect through it.
Generally routers completely control the connection and the PC has no direct control over it.
The wanadoo option should work if it doesn't list Orange. Are you sure you're connecting it to the line ok? If you can try swapping the phone cable to another.
I know the line is ok because it's the same line i use for the wired router, which works fine (otherwise i couldn't post this). I've tried all the settings with both Wanadoo and "other ISP" and nothing seems to work. It's just weird.
EDIT: hmmm, i tried it once more, and it came up with the same error message, and then connected all by itself . i did exactly the same as the other times too
. Ahh well, it's working now, so close this topic if you want, admins.
