Can I connect to the Livebox without using the wireless connector and, if so, will I be able to plug a a phone in? I've also got the original modem as supplied by Wanadoo (then) so if I connected this instead would I still get around 2 mb speed? The Livebox is now so close to my computer, I don't really need a wireless connection so would like to know the best option.

You can turn off the wireless via the configuration pages if you're not using it.

If your PC's got an ethernet port then you could use the livebox as a wired connection, it's well accepted ethernet is just better than USB.

Both the old modem and livebox should work fine on 2meg. It's only above about 4 meg when the old modem needs an update to it's drivers to help.
