I have G4 MAC running 10.3.9. connected using ethernet cable. no wireles card installed.
first night i managed to bring up the config pages within firefox after following instructions on the cd supplied. great... but at that time i didnt know about resetting my username and password etc so couldnt connect to the internet.
so second night of trying I switch on the MAC expecting to be able to acces the same config page from the livebox.... and nothing ?. onto the 50p a minute india call... checked all cables.. re-set the livebox (using the 1 button), restarted MAC. niehter typing the IP address or following the cdl links seems to work now ?
I do however get a MAC error message when i pull the ethernet cable something like...
.. 168. etc.etc.etc is in use by zcbv ak jh nan (nonsense)
in my network settings under ethernet status it says im connected using ethernet but my computer does not have an IP adress ?
The livebox @ sign is flashing once a second which to me says its picking broadband up, the antenna light is also flashing once a second? not sure what that means.
so im thinking its either that the livebox has mysteriously developed a fault or the cable/connections are dodgy ?.
That address (169...)means it's not being given an address by the livebox so using an automatic private one instead.
Have you tried using the other port on the livebox?
Alternatively you could try setting the address manually, go into Network and configure the ethernet connection.
On the TCP/IP tab set Configure IPv4 to manually then enter the following details.
IP - 192.168.1.2
Subnet - 255.255.255.0
Router (Gateway) - 192.168.1.1
DNS - 195.92.195.94 and 195.92.195.95
Apply it then disconnect and reconnect the ethernet cable to get it to sort of reset and see if it helps. If it doesn't you're best off going back in and setting Configure IPv4 back to DHCP.
my next step is to borrow a netgear router to see if the livebox is the issue. i must admit the network cable ports on the livebox seen particularly ill fitting and flimsy.
thanks so much for the info... IT WORKED!... as far as connecting to the Livebox. Unfortunately for some reason the password I chose doesnt work BUT after phoning india again it seems my requested password was entered incorrectly by Orange. so i now have the 'correct' password and will try that tonight.
arghhhh. no more luck im afraid. I reset the router, entered the config pages, validated etc, and it was fine, i was connected for maybe 20 mins, then the connection dropped and I couldnt get it back ?
