The Live box is a p**s of ****, I signed up to Orange recently when i swapped from my belkin to livebox router I was getting terrible speeds disconnections; Luckily I have switched back so everything is fine .

Can the FREE calls only be used via the livebox?

Yes, the talk service only works if you use the livebox.
