I'm a new Orange customer and have just viewed my first bill online (the itemised one) and noticed a charge for text message delivery reports!! I send quite a few texts each month and have always had delivery reports on as there are occasions when texts haven't gone through properly. I've got 1000 included texts with my Orange price plan, but keeping delivery reports could potentially add £10 a month onto my bill at 1p per report. Has anyone seen this charge mentioned anywhere? I said to the girl on the phone that it seems like they're trying to hide it as it's not even mentioned in the summary bill. Her response was that they told all their customers and dealers when they introduced it in April and it's in the terms and conditions. I've looked and the only place it's mentioned apart from itemised bills is a tiny line 24 pages into their price guide!!
I'd be interested to know how many people were aware of this charge? They claim they advised all their customers when they introduced it in April but I wouldn't be suprised if it was just that line added into the price guide subtley.

Have been an Orange customer for 8 years and they have never informed me of this. most phones now though don't give you the option of getting delivery reports.
That doesn't surprise me in the least. They seem to have done everything they can to hide the charge. I took my phone back and cancelled my contract and have now gone with a different network. I will be very reluctant to ever go back to Orange now. Their customer service is shocking too. Every time I phoned I had to queue, sometimes for up to an hour, just to speak to someone.
I can't find it on their website at all. Having said that, I can't find the prices for 0845 numbers, 0870 numbers, 0906 numbers, WAP CSD costs, high speed data costs, etc etc.
I can, however, find the all the information 99.9% of customers would require when choosing a package, ie how much per month, how many inclusive minutes and texts, international and roaming costs, GPRS costs and bundles.
The point I'm making is: they can't list everything on the website (can you imagine wading through all that mostly useless information?) and a call to them would have confirmed that delivery reports were now chargeable.
I don't know anyone who used delivery reports, but as it's something that you use extensively then it is your responsibility to check the charges before you agree to purchase. Orange aren't hiding this information from anyone. Had you asked prior to purchase "is there a charge for delivery reports?" the answer would not have been "I'm not telling you - it's a secret", it would have been "yes".

That's the point I'm making. They list all the charges that will apply to most people, and so when I read the literature provided and saw all the charges that I would normally expect to see, as in the day to day usage charges, I was given the impression that all the standard stuff was there. I know a lot of people that use delivery reports as sometimes, texts can go a long time before they actually get delivered. However, since Orange introduced the charge, they haven't advertised it. When I've spoken to them I've repeatedly been told that the shop should have told me about it when I took out the contract. They didn't. I've also been told that when the charge came in in April, they advised all their customers. I wasn't a customer at the time but no various people who are, and they have all said they knew nothing about it. deep_steam's post would seem to back that up. They also coincidentally at the same time as introducing this charge, started charging for itemised billing, which means that unless you pay for itemised billing, the delivery report is hidden from you even on your bill.
The reason I didn't ask about delivery report charges when I got the phone was because never in my life have I, or anyone I know, been charged for delivery reports. They could, in the same way, introduce a charge for receiving calls or text messages and hide it away in the depths of the website and claim they've told everyone. Would you ask, on taking out a new contract, if they charged for those things? I think not, because you've no reason to even imagine they may charge for receiving texts or calls. Call me cynical if you like, but I believe it is truly underhand, but, having read many of the other posts on this website, no longer surprises me. I'm pleased to say I'm no longer an Orange customer. I've now got a contract with Three. I got a much better deal and have had no problems of any significance. I notice Three are actually owned by Hutchison, who used to own Orange back in the day when they were a good company.
