I have just received delivery of a new Dell Inspiron 6400 notebook with Vista Home Premium which I would like to use wirelessly with my Livebox. I have an existing Dell desktop running XP which is already connected to the Livebox using the wired USB link, this has been working satisfactorily enough. However, all the documentation I have for the Livebox is pre-Vista and the instructions for adding an additional PC using the wireless option are for XP service pack 1 & 2. I have tried connecting the laptop as an additional PC using the wireless option, pushing the association button on the Livebox and then using the 'connect to' option on vista. I can see Wanadoo_be21 but when I try to connect I get message 'wireless association failed due to an unknown reason'. I have read various forums and help pages talking about WEP keys but am struggling to find the relevant place in Vista to input this information. I have also been disheartened by the number of postings expressing problems connecting wirelessly to Livebox. Any straightforward, step-by-step advice would be much appreciated.
If it's no longer asking for the key then go to the connect to menu and right click your livebox, select properties. The second tab, I forget it's title, has a box for the key. You need to make sure the key is exact, 26 characters long, A-F 0-9 only, letters in capitals, no spaces.
If that doesn't work then you could try changing the livebox to WPA only security and try connecting again.
you have probably tried this before, but i had that problem the first time i connected my livebox up, vista normally does this when the WPA/WEP key is incorrect.
to connect Vista i did this:
DO NOT insert the CD!
1. go to 'connect to a network'
2. find your livebox SID
3. Press button 1 on your livebox for connecting mode
4. click on the livebox name so that it asks you to enter the WEP/WPA key
5. Enter the key all in capitals without any spaces.
6. Click Connect
7. Hope it works.
It took about 30 seconds to config and then connected perfectly.
