I've had internet access for 8 years now. Started off with Freeserve (no problems), they then got taken over by Wanadoo (no problems) and then Wanadoo was taken over by Orange.
I was on the 512kb connection and then stupidly decided to upgrade to a faster speed... that's where all my problems have started. My internet is soo unreliable now. Tt's so slow... has days where it's constantly disconnecting every few minutes. I emailed Orange about this and got the standard piece of cack reply for me to go through the FAQ bits on their website (er did that, hence why they got an email off me). I have rang the Customer Services line, which is ****ing useless and made me go through the motions of unplugging modem, rebooting computer, reconnecting modem --- hey presto problem solved apparently - b****x is it.
I'm still of the option that the modems can't cope with the newer speeds. All the BS about the phone lines being faulty is just an excuse. A couple of work colleagues of my hubby have the misfortune of being Orange Broadband customers too. They've had exactly the same problems I've been experiencing. One of them got a BT engineer to come have a look at the phone line and was told it was perfectly OK and that Orange try to put the blame onto BT to get customers off their backs.
Another thing... are any of you still being charged the £27.99 tariffs from the old Wanadoo package? I notice the same package on the Orange website is £19.99, I did bring it up with billing enquiry bit on the automated Customer Services and was informed it would be sorted. No surprises then when I got my credit card bill through for this month and I'm still being charged full whack.
I'm seriously thinking of jacking in Orange and going over to BT.
You may not get any joy out of Orange but on here you can have a damn good rant........and suddenly life with Orange isn't quite as bad as you thought it was, because there are 1000's of us in the same cack as you !!
have you managed to get your connection problem sorted? i seem to be having the same sort of problem and its doing my head in! did the free lap top offer as well so dont really think there's any chance of getting out of the Orange contract

The free laptop offer should have no bearing on Orange's ability/inability to provide a connection and service. if they cannot provide a connection within 30 days, request your MAC code, have them terminate the contract at no expence to yourself. as for the laptop, its them not fulfilling the contract. so keep it unless they say otherwise
The problem is definitely the Orange LIVEBOX, its technical parameters are on the edge, so its 50/50 whether it will work or not, its amazing how some people blame everything else except the Livebox, they must be sponsored by Orange, (see my thread 7th December) The only hope if you need voip is to try an old Wanadoo Livebox.

There's no real difference between the two boxes.
They may look the same, have the same software and hardware but their tolerances are different, some work, some do not work, its as simple as that.
