An ADSL Max connection.

With Max you're limited by an IP Profile, you can find this by doing a BT Speedtest. The profile system is an automated system to adapt to your line and try and maintain stability as one of it's tools. When connection speed, this should be the sync speed between your modem and the BT exchange equipment, goes up the profile lags behind in order to make sure the speed is stable. Once it's been at that speed for 3 days the profile should be increased, providing there aren't other signs of problems such as disconnections.

Actually if the sync speed has gone up unless there was an open fault where Orange requested BT to investigate then it's nothing to do with Orange. They have no direct control over this speed as it's wholey dictated by the line and equipment at either end, in this case your modem and BT's not Orange's.
If your speed goes up in about 3 days time, again providing that speed is stable, then it shows the system is working perfectly normally.
