I really hacks me off when I see a great deal for new Orange users that I am excluded from. I am of course refering to the join Orange and receive a FREE laptop offer in conjunction with PC World. This is my experience:
Orange support told me that as an existing customer, I was excluded from this deal and the best they could offer was a free month. I said I would cancel, and 2 days later received a MAC code. Like other forum users, I thought I would try my luck at PC World, posing as a switched Broadband user from another company. It was easy; I just gave the MAC code and said I was from Pipex and the deal was authorised by Orange! I chose my Laptop; a Compaq, but I had to pay a little more that as PC World Laptop stocks are running low. The manager told me that that they are amazed that the offer has been so successful. Are they really this surprised? Any company who gives away FREE Laptops is going to be inundated. Yep, and anyone who's done the math can see why...
I am going to sell the Laptop on Ebay for about £380
I'm currently paying Orange £12.99 p/m for a 2MB service. This new deal costs £15.99, but the first 3 months are half price. So there's really no cost difference in the first year. In year two, I will be paying an extra £36, but after selling the Laptop and minusing the £99 it cost me, I will be left with a profit of about £255.
I think you're forgetting the most important bit though -
You've taken out a contract with Orange broadband and so are very likely to receive any service whatsoever.
Amazes me what the word 'free' does to people's thinking.

Hiya cosmic how ya doin
The likes of Orange and Talk Talk/AOL know full well what the word "free" does do to people look at last years "free broadband fiasco it turned out to be a crap offer, involving the same 2 companys but people got wise to that, now its happening again with the laptops they are probably rubbing their hands with another load of people locked in long contracts to replace the ones that have left. i wonder what they will think up next but whatever it is it will involve the familiar word "free".

Why do people this day and age realise there is no such thing as free, its always paid for somehow, and though this has slightly been discussed and no one has come up with the contract yet, there will be a clause that says that laptop belongs to Orange until the contract runs out.The deal is with Orange its just convenient to pick them up from a large superstore. And as a matter of interest I bought a laptop in April before this offer came about from PC World I noticed this week for the same spec its now nearly £200 more than I paid for it.Free laptops and broadband for a fiver gimme a break.
