I'm struggling to get our internet from the livebox to work at all through a physical connection, but it works fine when wireless on my laptop. I've spent ages playing around with it -altering IP addresses, checking the firewall, multiple reboots, scanning oodles of forums and all the rest but can't seem to find an answer. I've managed to persuade it that there is a network connection present, but it still won't connect to the internet. I've tried adding new connections to no avail. Any suggestions? Was connected to the internet (through the LAN) when it went off and the @ light of doom wasn't flashing or anything like that (but still left it for 20 mins, then turned both off and the livebox back on first).
The rest of the family is going spare without it so any help would be much appreciated!

TO TEST NETWORK CONNECTION:
Are you sure that you have a network card in the computer - I know it sounds daft - but they look very similar to modems.
(Start - All Programs - Accessories)
Open Command Prompt
Ping 192.168.1.1 -t
Control C to stop
For info purposes this command does a continuous loopback ping to the router. Without the -t it only does it 4 times. Its a means of quickly checking connectivity between PC and router.
If no connection will say:
Destination host unreachable.
Check into Network Connections through the control panel. Double click your local area connection. What status does it show? If connected go into the support tab, what does it show in there?
You could also right click the connection and repair it.
There could be a problem with network cable - try another one. Also if you are in the red socket on the Livebox try the yellow one.
There could be a problem with network card or drivers - first try re-installing drivers - re-boot computer.
If still no luck I would physically take network card out of computer - re-boot computer, then turn off. Re-install network card and allow XP to to find and install it.
