since the start of july i've been having the same problem every few days my Orange line keeps getting restricted to 130kbps. then after 3 days comes back to normal.
from reading bits and pieces of information on here and elsewhere on the net i'm lead to believe this is the line profile being restricted by the BT adaptive monitoring system.
i know this is because the BT monitoring system finds something it doesnt like.... is this my BT line? my router? my cabling? my sockets? something to do with oranges equipment in the exchange or something else?
any help is greatly appreciated and if i've got anything wrong then please point it out to me!
Make notes of the following during the good and bad periods, and report back here
From your router
Upstream connection speed
Downstream connection speed
Line attenuation/SNR/Noise margin figures (there will only be 2 for down and 2 for up, but their namings will vary from system to system)
If it drops to 130kbps for 3 days then that sounds all too perfect for an LLU line to happen to do so it's highly likely an ADSL Max line. It usually locks the profile lower for around 3 days if you get 2 or more low sync events.
Another thing you could check for is uptime/connected time or sync time. This would tell you how long since the last resync/reconnect. If it changes a lot then it means your line may not be very stable.
As soon as you see if drop speed make sure to check the downstream or sync rate ASAP as if that's lower than normal it's important to make a note of it.
Routers that log connection events come in very handy for these sorts of problems.
