Help help help! My daughter recently moved and approached Orange re broadband. She decided not to go with Orange but to go with a Sky package but Orange have blocked her phone line in preparation for supplying broadband (which she doesn't want from them now!) Sky cannot supply broadband until the block is removed. Despite extraordinary numbers of calls to the call centre all of which promise to clear the line in 5-10 working days, she is still without broadband after nearly 3 months. Orange promise to call her but don't and do not reply to letters (which are becoming increasingly abusive). Ideas anyone? who can sort this out? who can put pressure on Orange for us? does anyone have the number of a real person at Orange who will tell a minion to do their job?
It really depends how far into the supply process your daughter went.
It sounds like she may have (inadvertently perhaps) got to the point of accepting a contract without realising it.
But if they have agreed to clear the line, this indicates that they anticipated the contract agreement stage and tagged the line. If this is the case then Steve's advice is correct.

I'm currently having some sensible discussions with OFCOM.
For example they comment :
"Work designed to eliminate Tags is now being addressed by the Office of the Telecommunications Adjudicator (‘OTA’) through various tactical workstreams (focussing on big causes to drive down volumes) and a strategic long-term plan (to fix comprehensively). Ofcom is closely involved with OTA work on addressing Tags to ensure that industry is fully co-operating to resolve these issues. Where it becomes apparent that particular companies are not fully engaged with OTA in resolving Tag-related issues, we will consider whether action can be brought under GC22."
It should also be remembered that, to my knowledge, MAC codes are required by OFCOM rules NOT by any UK Statutory Instrument.
OFCOM believe that they prevent irresponsible sales and marketing
activity and smooth the transition from one ISP to another.
