Been with Wanadoo/Orange for 2 years and spoke with CS this morn to establish why I was only on 2MB contract speed at £17.99. Bloke said may be a demographic problem and check your member area to see if you can get it. Went on member area an pressed button which said do you wish to upgrade to 8MB at a cost of £0.00...did so! However I wanted to make a comparison with what they offer and what Sky offer for £5 with the intention ultimately of possibly cancelling in favour of Sky. Phoned up cancellation dept 10 minutes later after I had reached a decision and they said becasue I had pressed the button requesting upgrade I had entered into another 12 month contract??? After a lot of argueing about the morailty of capturing customers like this and the fact that I saw no mention of this 12 month contract notice I mentioned distance selling laws and the 7 day cooling off period. She said these do not apply since I agreed to the Orange Terms??? As far as I know no private agreement can superceed UK statute...and I said this but she was addiment that this was the case. Checked with Trading Standards website and I appear to be right since it does apply ti the internet selling of services! Have today sent of official letter with intent to cancel in accordance to distance selling statute under the 7 day cooling off period. How desperate are these people to keep customers. I have been a mobile customer of theirs for over 10 years....no more! Their customer service department are seriously petty!
8/08/07 - I sent a recorded delivery letter on this same day stating that in accordance to distance selling rules under the 7 day cooling off period I wish to cancel this contract and kindly request my MAC code....they have not responded.
Anyone any ideas on what to do next? I can only assume OFTEL?
