Okay anyone here advise me on the following situation ??
During the week I signed up for an alternative email address to use occasionally alongside my wanadoo one , a few hours later I logged onto the Orange homepage and managed succusfully to read my incomming email for my new fsmail account, either that night or next day I checked my original email via my usual method ( outlook express ) and was somewhat surprised to find that every single one off my old emails within both my inbox and sent folders had dissapeared !!!
had a problem today again on outlook express in that an incomming email message would not fully download and that my pop3 server time out message would constantly pop up, was advised that if I log onto the Orange homepage then I would be able to delete it from there as all emails are displayed on the web based server before the outlook express one, something which I never knew !!
so my question is this ?? is my missing emails within my outlook express folders been deleted by Orange themselves due me adding a new fsmail addy ??
would have thought not but just find it very strange that they are not there anymore, and are not stored when I check my old email add via Orange homepage either.
lastly !! just to confuse things even further have just started to receive all my outlook express emails whilst using my old wanadoo email account with just a subject line and no text within the actual email itself, tried a test email to myself today and same thing happened although just to confuse things even further the full message is displayed within the Orange homepage email checking !!
anyone exlain any off the above to me??
p.s if anyone knows how / if I can retrieve my old emails then please do let me know as there was afew that I would have really liked to have kept.
Sounds like something wrong with Outlook Express really.
By default OE downloads all emails for the account (or address used) and deletes them from the server. If it then loses them it's the PC itself that has lost them.

Okay thanks for that appreciatte your kind reply, just seems very strange that it all happened within hours off signing up for a new email address and also the fact that the missing stored emails from outlook are also missing from Orange ???!
but yep have to say that would have thought that in no way could Orange be able to delete my outlook express stored messages.
First, it might help to clarify the relationship between your Orange incoming mail server and Outlook Express.
When mail is sent to your Orange account, it is stored on the Orange incoming mail server where it may be accessed directly via the Orange web site (a so-called 'webmail' facility) or it may be downloaded to your PC using an email client such as Outlook Express.
Normally, the processs of downloading clears the mail on the Orange incoming mail server though you can set Outlook Express to leave the mail on the server (in which case you will get it all again the next time you download).
Also, if the download doesn't complete due to timing-out problems or whatever, the clearing process will not take place so you are likely to end-up with multiple copies of the same email next time you download.
A common reason for the downloading of email to time-out is when you are receiving large attachments--that is where you are usually advised to resolve the problem by deleting the offending email via the webmail service.
To be quite clear:
Any email that you delete using the Orange web mail service will not subsequently be included in an Outlook Express download
As Outlook Express only downloads incoming email, you will not have local copies of emails that you sent via the webmail service
Once email is downloaded via Outlook Express, there is nothing that the Orange service can do to delete it from your PC
Unless you need to access the webmail service in order to investigate or clear a problem, my advice is to always download and work on your email locally.
So, as the previous poster points out, the problem is most likely to be with your Outlook Express setup.
There is certainly no issue with the handling of multiple email accounts on OE so my best guess is that you have managed to set up a new Outlook Express 'indentity' (effectively, a separate OE user account) instead of simply adding a new email account to the main identity.
This can be easily tested in Outlook Express by clicking FILE/SWITCH IDENTITY - If there are two identites to choose from, you may well find your missing mail in one or the other
Okay thanks so much for your very detailed reply, helped a lot to understand just how things worked and also confirmed my idea that in no way could Orange delete stored emails within my outlook express account.
knew for a fact that I had not touched any settings within outlook express when I added this new additional email account to my wanadoo web based server but checked anyway and nope just the one original email account !!!
strange !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so okay thats that cleared up anyone able to tak me thru getting my email messages back from the depths off my pc then ???!!
Open OE. You need to have the folders list to do this really, if not you can enable it in View > Layout by ticking the folder list box.
Find the folder you had your email in and right click it, select properties.
In the general tab it'll give you the location of the folder file, a .dbx file. All email in a single folder is held within that file.
Go through my computer and find that location and look for the folder file specified. If you now have very little in it check the size of the file.
For example I have a folder containing 171 messages, a reasonable number have attachments, and the file size is a shade under 30 meg.
The larger the file size compared to the number of messages you now have the more likely it could have been corrupted somehow and still contains them.
As for retrieving them I don't know, you'll need to search online if nobody can suggest any good utilities for this.
