Hi, I am new here so sorry if this has been put in the wrong place, but I have 8mb Orange so this looked the most reasonable place to put it. Basically I am paying for a sports channel called Setanta Sports on Broadband. This was working fine for the first couple of day's but, today I gave been blocked. This is because my IP address is apparently outside of the UK - which I am not. I e-mailed Setanta Sports and they have told me to call Orange and ask them to give me a static IP address. However, with the Orange phonelines charging a hefty £1 per/min I cannot afford to do this. Does anybody know how I can have a static IP address without the hastle and cost of calling Orange.
Very odd. I don't think you can get a static IP. If you go to www.speedtest.net , what is your ISP showing as - or do you mind showing the first 2 digits from your IP address (e.g. 90.240). Mine usually shows as C&W or Orange

Sorry Sweeperdog, but the link doesn't work for me. Oh and incase it isn't noticeable, I am rather slow on the technology front so things would have to be put to me basically
Here's what they e-mailed, minus the meaningless apologies:
"Sometimes when an ISP is globally located they allocate an IP to you that is not
registered from your local country but from their overall bank of IPs which may
be registered anywhere in the world. We use your IP to determine where you are
trying to view the broadcast. In some cases it is possible to enable your IP
even if it is coming through as from a country outside the broadcast area.
However, the likes of AOL and Orange will give you a new IP address each time
you log on to their service making it impossible for us to unblock your IP
address.
Please contact your ISP and have them assign you a static IP address."

Try again, sorry but the comma had crept in to the end of the URL
Your IP address will show in the bottom left under the word PING
then click on a pyramid over the UK, your ISP will appear in the middle of the screen when the test has completed
Here is the first two sectors in my IP according to the site... 84.71
Looks like all the addresses on that range are Planet addresses registered to the UK.
It's more likely you've got a proxy server set that isn't in the UK and this is what the site caught. If you go into Internet Options then the Connections tab and click the LAN Settings button you can see if you have a proxy server set. If it's ticked just untick it and try the site.

No, I didn't have the proxy server ticked. It was working this morning, but when I got home from work I was blocked again. I really need to sort this out, and if I can't get a static IP address from Orange then I haven't the foggiest as to what I can do. Please help me, how can I even change my IP temporarily, my IP has changed from yesterday but when I turn the broadband hub off and then back on, nothing changes so I think Orange only change it every 24 hours.
IP address asignment is pretty random. Turning off and on sometimes will just get it the same IP as before. You could try going into the livebox pages and on Services > Internet clicking disconnect, waiting 30 seconds and clicking connect again.
Just remember if you're on an ADSL Max line multiple disconnections can make system believe your line is unstable and reduce it's speed profile if you're not careful.

Turning off for 15 mins or more usually gets a new IP address. Although I fiddle between PPPoE / PPPoA and using a @fs or @bb4 sign on to try getting faster speeds, which also gives a new IP address
