I've been putting up with problems from Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange for far too long now, and just discovered this great forum.
I see most people seem to have trouble sending mail. I've not really had this problem, it is the receiving that is the problem here.
If I click the send/receive button on OE, after about a minute or so, I get a pop up saying:
Quote:
Your POP server has not responded in 60 seconds.Would you like to wait another 60 seconds for the server to respond?
So if I have time to waste continuing trying to receive my e-mails, I say yes.
Then the connection pop-up comes up and it just sits there saying it is 'authorizing/checking for messages'. Then after a while, it will ask me for my password, which sometimes it will rarely accept, and most times it doesn't. The password I type is 100% correct and I know it works every now and then. Most times it won't accept it, and the box pops up again, asking me to enter my password again. Eventually either I stop the computer from trying to receive mail, or it disconnects itself and I get one of the following 2 error messages:
Quote:
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'Orange e-mail', Server: 'pop.freeserve.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [IN-USE] Unable to lock maildrop', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
I don't know why it claims the password is incorrect because it is not. It remembers my password, but I sometimes delete this and re-type it just in case (one of Orange's classic 'helpful' words of advice which I know is complete crap....), but whether it accepts it tends to be hit or miss.
The other error message is this:
Quote:
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'Orange e-mail', Server: 'pop.freeserve.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: ' Disconnect because authentication to back server is too long', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
If I'm lucky, I might get mail once a day, usually 50 or so e-mails that have all built up waiting to get through. Is there anything I can do, other than faffing about changes the server names? Incoming mail is set to pop.freeserve.com and outgoing is smtp.freeserve.com.
I'm at the end of my tether with this, as I do a lot of work from home and need a reliable e-mail service. Orange seem to be going from bad to worse....

You could change to Gmail which is free and uses smpt port port 587 and or 465 in email clients it would just mean giving everyone your new email addy other than that change ISP provider.
