This is a really strange problem, have had Orange/Wanadoo installed in my house for over a year now, I have an office 2 buildings away currently with no phone connection and am unable to connect reliably to my wireless connection as the signal is too weak unless I place the laptop precariously on the window sill.
So I decided after consenting with the building in between to run an ethernet cable from my girlfriend's house across the neighbours house and into mine. For over a year everything worked fine and then one month ago it stopped working...I've tried different laptops(whose network configuration works fine in any of my clients connections), different cables, different liveboxes, I've rang BT and had the line checked and everything seems to be fine. However the cable we need is 25metres in length (was always this long since day number one). I've bought numerous new cables and checked. If we try it using a 5m cable it works, 8m it works, 10m it works...I haven't tried any combinations between 10m and 25m but I have tried 30m and that doesn't work either...do I now need something to increase the signal strength or something? I can't believe though that the length of the cable should now start to cause a problem when it worked so well all along...I have a friend who's a BT engineer, he's come out and checked everything he can think of but nothing...does anyone out there and have any ideas to help restore my sanity ? I haven't been able to do anything constructive for almost one month now...Thanks in advance, P.
