I've been checking round to find an alternative BB supplier and when I have my line tested most say it is ADSL enabled and I can migrate but a couple say I am on LLU although I can still migrate its likely to cost money.
The money thing doesn't worry me but because I am on LLU is it likely to be a painful experience leaving Orange and what are they going to throw at me telling me why I can not migrate?
I just want to be ready with answers when they try to baffle me with reasons why I cant leave.
I am a relic of the Freeserve/Wannadoo era and my contract has long since expired although I believe I will have to give 30 days notice? is that correct?
Thanks for any answers Brian
All LLU means is that the idiots at Orange have put their second rate equipment into BT's exchange to provide your service.
When you ring to get a MAC code you will no doubt get the usual lies like no other ISP accept LLU MAC codes.
Orange get very devious when trying to keep customers.
See the list below (taken from this site) for a list of at least some of the providers who accept LLU MAC codes.
Migrating with a LLU MAC won't cost you anymore at all.
The sooner you get out the better.
Personally I left the lying, robbing Orange last year and went to Idnet.
Never had a problem since, they're fantastic and speak ENGLISH when you ring them.
I also forgot to say - Orange often delay sending out MAC codes or send false ones.
When you ask them for one remind them that they have 5 working days BY LAW.
After this time you can report them to ISPA and OFCOM.

Thanks for the reply Andy and I'm sure you are right, the reason I said it would cost money was because I got this when I did a telephone check with ADSL24 and I quote:
"The problem with LLU is that if your ISP has you on their own LLU equipment and not BT's, if you ever want to move away from them to any other ISP, you will have to pay a migration/activation fee of around £45+vat for BT to do work on your line to hook you back up to the normal equipment and away from the LLU kit. So, please be aware that although you may think you're getting a better deal, when you come to switch ISP's in the future you'll have to pay that migration/activation fee to do so.
We accept MAC codes from all ISP's including LLU providers. "

Brian most ISP's will not charge you for migration so do some research before you commit to a new contract and go for ISP's that offer 1 month ones heres some links to check what others think.
It depends on the ISP in question. Due to the higher charges migrating an LLU line compared to an IPStream one some will pass the charge on. Just check with any prospective ISP's first and they should inform you of any charges they apply for an LLU migration, just as ADSL24 did.
If an ISP is saying they are migrating you onto their LLU service (or giving you a speed upgrade as Orange like to put it), then if in the future this is going to mean incurring extra costs to move ISPs, can you ask the original ISP (orange in this case) to not do this migration to LLU, or is it just tough luck

Depends on the ISP in question. With Orange there is no opt-out of LLU migration. I've heard of other ISP's that do and some that don't.
