I have been following the discussions over the last few weeks as I have been having the same problem of not been able to send emails via Outlook Express.
Many thanks to everybody who has posted suggestions. Cerntainly the idea of swapping between Orange, wanadoo and freserve smtp servers seemed to work but it is only a short term fix and needs changing at least once a day.
The post regarding the IP address being the same for all the servers looked interesting and I got to thinking that maybe you could bypass part of the system and go directly to one of the seven servers rather than let Orange chose one for you.
So I typed in the IP address 193.252.22.xxx into the smtp server box and bingo it has worked perfectly every day for the last two and bit weeks. Sometimes it goes instantly and sometimes it takes maybe five seconds but it always goes.
It looks as if the problem is with Orange's system for switching people to the various smtp servers and not with the servers themselves.
Would somebody like to try the same idea and see if they get the same results.

Orange mail servers range from 193.252.22.00 thro' 193.252.22.255 for the range of countries.
I just wanted clarification that I was interpreting correctly what Peter said....but you have confirmed it !

I've run a test this morning on all the IPs listed in post by egnaro 8/5/07.
I'm using XP Home with SP2 + Outlook Express + Belkin F5D7633UK4A modem/router.
Results :-
193.252.22.134 = did not send
193.252.22.138 = send
193.252.22.139 = send
193.252.22.140 = send
193.252.22.187 = did not send
193.252.22.188 = did not send
193.252.22.189 = did not send

I've done a Traceroute on 193.252.22.134 / 138 / 139 and 2 of the Lille France IPs, 193.252.161.189 and 193.252.100.246 show 11+ms results in all 3 columns......I'm not techie enough to analyse the results but could this be the problem ? I'm sure I've seen a recent post on here highlighting a Lille server problem which Orange should know about.
