Hello,

I use Debian unstable.

I am tryind to connect to the encrypted wifi router (Orange Livebox) and it fails. The wifi card is atheros and the driver is madwifi.

The router itself is OK, because I am now writing from a computer with Windows XP and it works.

I use wlassistant (I tried it directly from the shell too), I introduced the WPA key and configured the connection as dhcp.

I think the point is this error message:

stderr : Failed to connect to wpa_supplicant - wpa_ctrl_open: No such file or directory

Why does it happen? Any help?

Ok Three main points.

Did you press the 1 button on the livebox so the antenna flashes (pairing mode) before trying to connect?

You may need to change the livebox to WPA only security from it's config.

You're sure the key was entered ok?

I did so when connecting the first computer (the one with Windows XP). It is necessary to press 1 only once, isn't it?

I did it already, because WPA is much more secure. But then I have a question: why, although it is in WPA, you still have to enter a WEP password when configuring the router?

On the other hand, I think there is a bug in wlassistant, that does not create the configuration file for wpa_supplicant. But I do not know how to configure wpa_supplicant by myself for the livebox. Can you help me?
