I first signed up to Orange in Nov 06. Signed up for the 8mb unlimited package. A regular xbox360 live user - that's why i signed up. Receiving over 5mbs dowload until about 14 days ago. Since then it has slowly dropped - receiving only 308 kbps at the weekend and when I logged on tonight only 68kbps!.
Phoned the Orange sales line and appiled for a new account and sure enough they told me I could receive downloads of upto 8mbs. Then explained to the sales chap that I was already an Orange account user and that I wanted to know why performace had dropped. He said that the exchange wass LLU compatible (Winsford, Cheshire) and that he would transfer me to a UK call centre. I had previously been on the phone twice over the weekend to an India call centre where they seem to be working to some sort of checklist - all the advice I complied with and the speed did not change i.e. move my upstairs office setup - from and internally wired phone connenction - into the hall dowwnstairs where the main line comes in. Result = speed no change - but I could have told them that before the move.
Been on again tonight twice, both times cut off by the customer service unit for asking why my download speed is only 68kbps! I might as well be on dial up.
They would not perform a line speed test and would enter into discussion about poor network speeds. I'm no IT biffa and also have a mate who works at Pipex who says that Orange are sales led and are overloading their servers. Just signing up new accounts willy nillly it seems.
I'm mad! Really mad, and want to know if anyone else has had these issues and whether it's easy to break the contract with Orange and change to another ISP. The internet shows that Be have enabled the LLU on the Winsford exchange and wondered if they were better ISP's. The web reviews seem positive!
This whole experience has left me with a bitter Orange aftertaste!

Thanks John
What I cant understand is why the hell the network has become so slow over the past 7 days????
Thought it was a virus at first but after various PC scans it seems the major virus is Orange and their p*ss poor servers. I could get way better service from another ISP.
What really pecks my head is that Orange seem oblivious to their chronic performance, and to new customers keep bigging up their possible download speeds - irrespective of what the actual speed may be!
hi in response to weather it is easy to break your contract with Orange. Sadly the answer is no!!! If you cancel or get a MAC code before your contract runs out then you will have to pay a cancalation fee. The only way to cancel your contract without fee is by having it wavered by a technical team leader and they will only consider this if you have constantly called with the same issue for at least a month. The best way to cancel is by getting a MAC code and moving to another isp or llu provider as this is quicker otherwise you will have to pay for another month before they close your account. Hope that you get things sorted
I am having the same problems in Winsford, have managed to achieve a download speed of 37.5Kbps this last week, have been cut off and hardly had any service from Orange, have rang consistently over the last 2 weeks given advice it will be ok in 24 hours,48hours, 5 days and also end of month, each time they say remove cookies, history, unplug USB to other peripherals, unplug telephone from Sky and all other telephones in house, have explained to them that connection is to master socket from BT, had line reinstalled by BT and checked that it is operating OK, I have spoken to Orange cust services and told them that I require a refund due to not having this service as per our agreement
As you can see I am a little cheesed of Orange if In can i will be cancelling my contract.
I agree with jonyb - get out ASAP, things will just get worse.
As Orange are not providing oyu with the service you pay for it means they have broken the contract so it becomes void.
Ring up, get your MAC code and move to a real ISP.
I moved last September to Idnet, from the nightmare known as Orange and never had a disconnection or slow speed since.
They ahve to provide you with a MAC 5 days within you requesting it, even if you are in contract.
As they have broken it you then don't owe them anything.
Well had another go at Tech support - Orange last night, assured me that my line had been checked and was ok, told him no change in speed, he stated that they had a problem at the moment with slow download speeds but were working to get this fixed in the next few days!!!!!!!.
Then had a go at Customer services and will be getting a refund of my monthly fee for this last month so well see what happens next.
i am also in winsford and having the same problems should be on 8meg but not getting more then 1meg download and 90kbs upload for few weeks now have rang Orange and been told told there is a fault on my line but been waiting all week and they've have done nothing yet to fix it
Im in winsford also and left Orange 10 days ago after getting a MAC code, the speed had dropped to about 30kb in the evenings and was promised by tech supprt that it would be fixed time and time again. However the last call I made to Orange tech support the guy gave me a website address which was a **** site. That was the icing on the cake (especially as I had my nephew and niece on my lap while i typed in the address. (the story can be found in accounts forum at the bottom). Anyways after not accepting their oppology they have waved the cancellation charge etc. (but i will be checking my credit report and if they have done anything i dislike they will be getting a fat county court summons)
Ps I went to Be* getting 12-14mb downloads but ill reserve my comments on customer service until ive been with them a bit longer.
something odd tho is that if you type in beproblems.co.uk it comes here =/
Everybody who leaves Orange and moves toa real ISP, including myself, immediately gets fast download speeds.
I really do urge people to leave ASAP and go with an ISP that can provide the service not excuses.
After all - would you pay for a bus or taxi fare if it never took you anywhere?
