I have been with wanadoo/orange broadband for 2.5 years and not had too many problems until now.
On 24/06/07 my internet access suddenly stopped - cannot access any website and the same error appears each time indicating that the website is not available. However, my email is showing no problems whatsoever.
I called the Orange helpdesk and was asked loads of questions about the cabling etc. Then a bit of trial and error stuff. I was told to delete my speedtouch connection and create a new network connection - the result of this was that my speedtouch modem no longer worked and therefore email also failed.
Then I was told to re-install the modem drivers at which point (after nearly an hour) my phone ran out of charge.
Can anyone help with the technical issues please ?
Don't get me started on my opinion of the helpdesk grrrrrrrrr.
My first concern however is that my modem doesn't look too healthy after I followed the advice of the Orange helpdesk and removed my speedtouch connection. If I want to reinstall my modem drivers, what do I do ? Is it a matter of getting the disk that I originally received from wanadoo and installing from there ?
It is somehow reassuring to see that others have had similar problems to me!!
I managed to get my speedtouch and therefore email up and running, but still no joy with the internet. I can remote desktop to my work pc and even play party poker. Is it possible that it is not a problem with Orange but with my Internet Explorer ?
The message I get is always the same no matter what website I try to access -
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.
What you can try:
Diagnose Connection Problems
More information
I entered the Diagnose Connection option and it said the connection was fine.
I have had a similar problem. One day it was fine the next day it went really slow. On my second call to ttech support I asked for my MAC code. They then admitted it was a fault at their end and it would be fixed in a few days. It got a bit better but was still not perfect, then it went back to being slow again after a few days. I rang again and insisted on getting my MAC code. The guy said it looked like their was a fault on my line, but I explained the Google website worked ok! He said I would get the same problem with a new provider. I switched and am now with BT internet. On the day of the switch the speed of the internet went to what it should have been (512 kbs max on my line), and I have had no more problems since.
If you are still having problems I would switch. It really is quite easy. Once you have your MAC code it just took a week, and you are not without a connection for more than an hour (I did not notice this as was not in at the time). O, and you will also save a bit of money too! I was paying £17.99 with Orange. I still pay this but get the first 6 months half price. It really is a better service. I just could not afford the time of phoning Oranke tech support all the time!
It is unlikely to be any of your settings. If you had changed nothing on your PC or modem they would not have changed on their own. Most other providers services work with what ever antivirus software you care to run. Orange's should too!
