Hi,
I'm a newbie here so really looking for some advice and help as I haven't had any problems like this before.
I've been with Orange since it was Freeserve and Wanadoo and I have never had any problems with connection speed until about a week ago. It's actually been a really good service for me, I am online all the time and have never had issues or much downtime.
But every day for over a week now it's been really slow, keeps disconnecting and a few days ago went off completely. It's driving me up the wall because I can't do anything online and I just got a new PS3 and can't use the online features or download anything because of this and this was happening before I got the PS3 and set it up to my wireless network.
In May I got an email from Orange saying my broadband was being made faster but come June it's been slower than it's ever been. I don't know what is going on.
How do I check my speeds, is there anything I can do on my laptop and should I call or email Orange? Please help.
They have probably changed you to the dreaded LLU which basically means they put their quipment in BT's exchange and destroy your connection.
I had the same problem - was perfect with Wanadoo and Freeserve then after the email saying 'we are upgrading your line' things got worse.
I lost my connection for 2 weeks and cancelled after that.
when you ring them up they just give you bull excuses like 'fault on the line we will run a test so ring back in 48 hours'.
I strongly advise you to leave Orange ASAP as things will only get worse.
Like myself, everyone who moves to a real broadband provider gets an immediate increase in speed and stability.

I called them and have never dealt with such a sloppy technical support in my life. Each person I was put through to had their own different excuse, they can't speak proper English and didn't know what they were going on about and I was eventually told that the UK is experiencing problems and to wait 48 hours which I know won't solve the problem.
I need my Orange email which is why I am unwilling to change so quickly, so somehow I will have to change all my email addresses on my accounts which will take me forever seeing as my connection is so slow.
Does anyone know if I will be able to get off Orange easily or is that going to be a problem too?

You will still be able to use your Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange emails as long is its active if thats wrong someone will correct me on it, i left Orange the beginning of last august and my freeserve email account is still open although i stopped using it long before i left Orange as it was choc-a-bloc with spam and still is.
If your not in a contract you can leave when you want although Orange will say otherwise to stop you from leaving, they have to provide you with a MAC within 5 days of requesting it.
Good luck

If you are willing to loose the Orange email address OR are able to keep the email address when you leave, I would suggest, assuming that you are out of contract, you leave Orange and choose another ISP. As Steve says, dont accept any of Orange's offers to stay and dont believe them when they say it will improve. When you make the decision, call them for a MAC code and migrate asap. As you are needing a BB connection for the PS3, Orange will NEVER be good enough for the speed and stablity required. Im in the process of joining BEunlimited. They offer speeds of upto 24meg (great for PS3) and the contract is for 3 months.

Thanks for your help guys. I'm definately moving from Orange. I'm not in a contract and I'll request MAC code and tell them I'm leaving ASAP. Hopefully I'll still be able to access email and then slowly start changing my emails and get off Orange altogether. The email is pathetic for the amounts of spam.
