Having just bought a Windows Vista computer that I want to work upstairs off of my wireless connection downstairs, I have discovered that I need to set my Livebox to WEP instead of WPA and disable the Firewall. Sounds easy, but I have now discovered that I have got no way of getting 'into' my Livebox from my computer. I've got no icon, nothing on 'Control Panel' or 'My Computer'. I've tried typing in the address I have on my Livebox print up (http://192.168.... etc) and that comes up as unobtainable. Please help!
Other question is: does anybody know if my other two Windows XP computers will work using WEP instead of WPA if I do this.
Lastly when I tried to instal the Livebox CD on the new PC, all that comes up is 'there is another programme running on this computer' - however we cannot find out what this might be.
I didn't use the CD, but I believe that there is a conflict between the CD and something on the computer (Flash???). Anyway, do a search on this forum for the answer, or I am sure that someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly.
The http://192.168.1.1 link can only be accessed when you connect up the ethernet cable between the PC and Livebox and have it powered up.
Click on the "Access to the configuration pages" link, then choose My Services from the menu on the left, then Internet.
If you are prompted to login, the username is admin and the password is admin.
Then insert your username and password for connection to the internet.
Connection login=username - xxxxxxxx.freeserve.co.uk@fs
Connection password=your password

UNABLE TO CONNECT WITH WIRELESS:
Are you pressing Button 1 on Livebox to put it into pairing mode?
Press Button 1 on Livebox so the wifi light flashes. This puts livebox into pairing mode and you have 10 minutes to try and connect your wireless device . This only needs to be done once and then you should be able to connect every time .
I had to change security on Livebox to WEP only.
WEP key is case sensitive.
If security is an issue WPA is more secure, try WPA only.
You could also try Changing the channel. One recommended to try is channel 9.
Another issue is if there are 2 programmes on the computer that you are trying to connect trying to control the wireless. Turn of the programme that came with the wireless card and use XP to control the connection.

You have to have a connection beforehand, you should be able to just connect up the ethernet cable to the livebox in order to access the config.

Almost any adapter that supprots WPA will support WEP so that shouldn't be a problem. Really though I'm surprised you can get an adapter to work on Vista that doesn't support WPA as all should by now.
Thanks, everyone, for your replies. I've now accessed my Livebox configurations etc, no problem. But I still cannot connect my Vista machine.
I think my problem is caused by the wireless adaptor not being installed on the new Vista PC. Problem is the Livebox installation CD will not work in the new PC - and I definitely don't have Adobe Flash 9 on it at all. Having looked at the Orange website, they say use the CD which came with your Adaptor to instal the Adaptor driver. Unfortunately NO cd came with the adaptors, we installed the adaptors using the main Livebox CD (which, as I've said, will not work in the new Vista PC).
I've checked that the adaptors we have (Thomson 122g) are compatible with Vista and apparently they are.
Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance.

Presumably the Livebox is connected to internet and you have connection through other computers.
Forget the Livebox and work out how to install the adaptor, it should have come with instructions and drivers. If not download the drivers from manufacturers site.
Plug the adapter in, does the found new hardware box pop up? If so just pop the CD when asked and it should install it for you. Otherwise you need to go into device manager find the adapter and right click, update driver and point it to the 122g vista driver folder on the CD.
Now I've got to the stage of the adaptor working fine. Problem is the new Vista machine won't accept my WEP password. I pasted in the 128 bits key as I couldn't find anything that said WEP password. The computer answered that this is the wrong one. I took great care to paste it in, not type it. Have done this twice and have also tried the number on the box - to no avail. Now the PC won't ask me again. All I get is a message - cannot connect, contact your ISP provider.
The last time I contacted my ISP provider it cost me a fortune with engineer after engineer calling round. I don't trust them.
Any suggestions gratefully received. Thank you.
Go to connect to and find your livebox, right click on it and select properties. The 2nd tab I believe gives you the key box that you can re-enter if needed.
Thank you. Have managed to get that sorted thanks to your help.
I now seem to have Livebox working with my new Vista machine (I've seen from that the signal strength is 'excellent'. However, nothing is happening. I've noticed that in the Network Sharing Centre on the Vista PC that 'Access is Denied' and when I click on Network Discovery (because apparently I have no networks connected) it is permantently 'off'. I cannot change it to 'on', it just clicks back to 'off' when I click on 'apply'.
I think I'm nearly there but do you know what I should do now please? Thanks
forgot to mention that i only know livebox is connected and the signal strength is 'excellent' because I set up an 'ad hoc network'... all the Vista machine kept saying was that it was waiting for users to connect, but the Vista machine would not connect.
Have I got to do something to the Vista machine to allow a network (bearing in mind Access is Denied to the Network Sharing Centre. Or maybe I have to do something to the main computer which is Windows XP.
thanks again.
Firstly you have to have turned on sharing in both XP and Vista. I'm sure there's some easy method in Vista to do it and help guide through setting it on XP as well. You could always just run XP's network setup wizard from the control panel I know that does give an option to help with setting up other PC's for networking.
