This looks good but is meaningless when I can only download at 475kbps, it has been worse - below 100. Rises to about 3500 during the mornings when the networks less busy.

Have you tested your speed between 6 and 10 PM GMT ?
It has taken me several letters, e mails, phone calls to inda but finally Orange have pulled there fingers out and completed the infrustucter upagrade! I have gone from having a download speed of 0.1mps. to 6.8mps. This is steady and has not been lower than 5.5meg for the last 4 weeks!
I noticed that the week before last my speed jumped from no more than 2.5Mbps (sometimes a lot lower) up to 5Mbps almost all the time. My connection did drop around midnight, the router ADSL connectivity light went out completely. Next morning my connection was back up and seemed much quicker so I tried speedtest.net and was amazed!
Ever since my line went LLU I've had slow connections, no service or just flaky service, now it seems much better.
