I have been having a problem with my Livebox. I am in France but am a Anglophone. I installed my livebox 2 months ago with the intention of connecting to it a linksys router with VoIP from vonage (stateside local number). The setup worked fine until about the 15th of May when is suddenly stopped working. Whenever the linksys is connected via the ethernet ports on the livebox the sync on the ADSL fails after about 10 seconds. I hear a click (relay?) and the Internet light starts to flash. I have changed modems. I also tried connecting a gigabit switch instead of the linksys and found the same condition exists. Soon after the ethernet device is removed the ADSL link re-establishes. Not being fluent in French limits my ability. However I suspect that a platform upgrade at Orange/Wanadoo is what is responsible. Does any one have any ideas?
Thanks
Both devices use power supplies which do not have grounds (2 prong) so that is not something I have any control over.
In that case, check each device has a good (common) Neutral connection
I don't know anything about French domestic electrics. One of the forums for 'Anglos in France' will probably be able to give more detailed advice on this. There's one here:
Each power supply is 2 wire in/2 wire out. I suppose that i could provide a ground between the two devices using a jumper wire but it seems that the ethernet cable should handle that function. Maybe not. Additonally the problem occurs several seconds after the device is connected. It seems like maybe the POTS line (ADSL) or the equipment at the other end is dropping things. I don't have anything sophisticated enough to test that kind of thing.

I meant the power supplies rather than the devices themselves. Sorry for the lack of clarity.

I would have thought that if a firmware update introduced this issue then there would be discussions about it on the French Livebox forums. Again, perhaps the 'Anglos in France' forums can help. Livebox updates in the UK are lagging behind the French ones.

I don't think you need any kit. See (4) and (5) below. I was trying to make my initial suggestion broad enough to cover several bases but I've only succeeded in over-complicating things If you haven't done so already, I'd suggest trying the following:
1) Different Livebox port
2) Different Ethernet cable
3) Reset Livebox
4) Both power supplies connected to the same mains socket via an adapter with a visual check on each plug/adapter connection.
5) Visual check of lead between Livebox power supply and its 2-pin plug
6) Different Livebox/Power Supply (Don't know about France but in the UK you can pick them up quite cheaply on eBay if you buy one without a wireless adapter.)
Thank you for the continued perseverance. I will check the 'Anglos in France' forum to see what I find. I have a adapter/extension cord that both devices are powered by so they are running on the same circuit. The router has been been reset and the Livebox was exchanged through France Telecom. I have used different ethernet cables as well. After nearly a month with the issue I am starting to get a little testy about it so I apologize if there is any of that in my tone. I keep thinking that it is a firmware issue with the Livebox or else an issue with the France Telecom network. I have tried connecting to both of the ethernet ports after disabling the TV and Visiophone configurations. According to the directions either port should work. The fact that I can connect my laptop without the drop out through the ethernet and not the router or the switch seems really odd.
A quick aside: I am from the Southwest of the US. Normally I hear Anglos used as the term our neighbors to the south and often it is not used fondly. Interesting the differences between the US and the UK.
