I recently sent an email to Orange regarding going over the fair usage policy by 1.5GB and them sending a threatening letter here is the contents of the email.
>
I today recieved a letter from yourself about my 'excessive usage' the
letter explained my usage is well above 40GB (in fact it is 41.5GB which
in my opinion is not 'well above' 40GB).
I visited the website regarding the fair useage policy, i attempted to
find where it says the fair useage policy is capped at 40GB, it does not
have a figure at all, therefore i am confused at how i am able to know
my useage limit.
Or even how i can monitor it myself.
I do watch TV online and download software, but only do so outside peak
hours and try to do so at a minimum as requested in the fair use policy.
Therefore i am confused how i have breached the useage policy.
We regularly send letters to groups of broadband customers who've been
abusing their service through excessive usage.
There are 2 types of customers:
> Capped broadband customers who have used way above the limit of their
cap (currently set at 40GB but subject to change).
> Uncapped broadband customers who have abused the fair usage policy.
The first letter customers will receive will request that they reduce
their usage. If they don't reduce their usage they’ll receive another
letter informing them that their account will be closed.
They like fobbing you off. e.g. when they weren't prepared to do anything following my speed degredation since LLU, I sent them this
>Since you are unable to provide a decent level of service and are
>unwilling to support me because of my choice of router which was working
>fine prior to the upgrade from ADSLMax to LLU, I have no choice but to
>lodge a complaint with OFCOM and the ISPA.
this was their response
>We understand your concern,AS per our records you are on a highspeed
>broadband .
>we advice to carry out some steps as follows
followed by a load of URL's telling me how to clear down my temp internet files etc
The team who answer the emails avoided the question because they don't have an answer or the authority to make any alterations. It's pretty much a zero tolerance policy, even heard of staff on the staff deals getting cut off in exactly the same way.
I don't like it either but thats how they run it. The limit does vary but previously has always been going up, was at 50gig before so the current 40gig ones are the first change down they've done. They send out a warning and if you go over again it's account termination with practically no way of preventing it.
