I had a stable connection for months, then I lost the line altogether (link down). They seemed to fix that but I was left with PPP server down.
They apper to have fixed that by progressivly down grading my line, first to 2M and then 2 days later to 1M.
They say this was done because BT advise that this was the fastest speed that would maintain a stable connection - but I didn't have an unstable connection!! Just one day no connection at all!!
I'm now stuck because CS & TS say they can't over ride what has been done.
Here are my stats: Note that I sync at 7100!
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 29.8
Attenuation (dB) : 52.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 7104
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 1152 288
Just so it's clear you sync at 1152, you won't get the 7104 attainable speed, probably the closest you'd get to it is a few hundred below that at least.
Your line, just from the stats, should be able to handle much faster but it is possible that problems could cause them to keep lowering it to that level it's unlikely as there would be something major to cause that and it would normally get fixed.
CS & TS can't override the cap, thats true, it can be done in some cases but you'd need to go higher up the chain but even then it depends who you speak to. That and getting them to undo what was done in response to a fault may be hard.
Usual Orange lies - move to a real ISP to get your true download speeds.
Orange are not a real ISP, nothing more than a lying, robbing excuses for one.

Ok, thanks Elhana for sorting out the phrases - so Downstream rate = sync rate?
I never expected to get even close to the Attanable Download Rate of 7M - but when the sync is restricted to 1152 the best speed I'll ever get now is 0.9M

How did you get such a high sync with such a high Attenuation Mines 48ish and i only ever sync at 5300, usually 4800ish though
My noise margin used to be 9dB. Then when they set the 1152 restiction it shot up to 30dB 'ish. Attenuation has always been around the 50dB mark - I'm 1.5km from the exchange. Elhana poined out that the sync rate = the download rate = 1152 in my case. My attanable rate has always been around 7M - that's why I'm pi**ed off!
Strange how i have a lower attenuation but i sync a lot lower, im 1.6km fro mth exchange, but obviously my lines a hell of a lot longer than that going of my attenuation lol
Ok, I complained to Orange (twice). Had to insist that I talk to a supervisor, then the supervisors manager (Rotherham). In parallel I lodged a complaint with the ISPA.
Result - my line has been lifted to 5+M. And guess what? My line can magically support more than 1M! HOW UNEXPECTED.
So it would appear that I'm now off their case - more room for others to have a look in.
Bloody good luck!
Here's my new stats:
ADSL Top Refresh ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 10.8
Attenuation (dB) : 51.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 6400
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Think of margin as a currency to "buy" sync speed, you start off with so much and the more you buy the lower the margin gets. Too low and you'll get disconnections or other problems. When it gets capped at a lower sync rate you have extra margin to spare as it can't be used to increase the sync.

I would really like to know what you actually said to 'Them' being reasonable and polite does not seem to work.

Still seems strange you got a higher attenuation than me, and you're still syncing higher than me, and getting a better noie margin =\
I'm going out on a limb here, Sheep, by making the glib unthought-out
statement that we're still capped at a higher speed, whilst they are still
faffing about with the LLU and/or servers.
Here's my recent Netgear stats whilst seeing a download of ~ 3080 kbps

Noise Margin 12 db 31 db
My upstream is actually synched at 224 kbps right now.
Doesn't look like dodgy wiring to me, and I'm 500 m from my exchange.
I recently had up to 4.3 Mbps with 251 kbps upload at busy times.
It's Orange playing around with loadings and their kit.

Sorry, Sheep.
I noticed my Netgear DG834 had an upload SNR of 6dB and sync
of 224 kbps. Yesterday, it was 31dB/288kbps. Hmmmm.
So, I rebooted the router and it restored 31dB/288kbps and the download
returned to within a gnat's whisker of my new 4 Mbps cap.
Not LOL but COL (crying out loud).
