Hi
Your help is appreciated!
i Have just recently got my livebox etc. (i moved house and couldnt kep my 10MB NTL connection - )
I have installed from the install CD, and the wired ethernet works fine.
I have a Fujitsu Lifebook N3520 Laptop running XP/Media CEntre with Centrino wireless.
There is a switch on the top of the laptop which turns wireless on or off - it is currently ON.
I bought the laptop in January in the USA - if that has any bearing.
It came with Norton, but i have uninstalled etc as it is evil.
I now have ZOnealarm and Avast Home edtion.
When i try to install the wireless connection on the laptop, i follow all the insructions and press the 1 button on the livebox to put into pairing mode, then windows detects a wireless network, so i click connect and it asks for my WEP key. When enetered, it trys to connect ......
...but keeps on trying "Aquiring Network Address".... for ages and ages then just seems to give up, after a while informing me that it could not conect to the network.
If i then click next on the Lvebox installation, oddly enough nothing seems to happen ather than it trys to connect again, but never seems to get anywhere.
Before i uninstalled Norton, when i clicked next on the LB installation, it said "could not conect to livebox, makw sure your firewall is off". (which it was). Since uninstall, all i get is nothing rather than that.
Every time i boot up, the network is detected, and it trys to connect, but to no avail.
I was about to setup mymain PC in a different room and use the wireless Speedtouch that wanadoo supplied, but am now scared to go to all that effort - if i cant connect a proper centrino wireless device, then a USB device seems even less likely.....
I'm a wireless vrgin, so please be gentle.
Any advice will be gratefully received
WEP entered wrong (capitals and no spaces),
Wireless interference (change the channel),
Security (turn off Zonealarm until you establish the connection).
Last one is easy, for the others it's best to make a wired connection.
On wired (usually you can just connect the cable, nothing more needed) browse to 192.168.1.1,
click the link,
username and password by default are both "admin",
go into Security then Wireless Connection,
copy the WEP key so you're certain it's right,
change the channel to see if a difference frequency helps,
submit and try connecting again, remember to press "1" so the antenna light flashes until you get it working.
OMG
It works!
Changed the channel to 2 and it works!!!
You've probably got a neighbour using channel 1. You should get even better results using a non-overlapping channel. Take a look at this UK-specific page:

Ok I spoke too soon!
I am currently using the wireless and it is connected at 54Mbps..... but it has just changed to 24Mbps, and will probably go down to 21Mbps just before it stops working entirely.....
When i reboot it auto conects and it works again.
When i shut down last night, i came to check the laptop was off, and found that it had hung and that 'WEP KEY' had stopped responding........ I ended task and all was well.
Seems odd tho.
I wil try to change channel again maybe a bigger jump - channel 7 maybe.
It doesnt detect any other networks in the area.....
When i tried to complete the Wanadoo wireless installation from the CD, it still said it 'Could not connect - turn your firewall off'. Which it was.
Should i worry about the wanadoo install?? could the lack of this install cause the problems?
Also, what are the POP and SMTP addresses for the wanadoo mailbox?

Perhpas change the channels until you find a satisfactory connection - how far is the livebox from the laptop (I'm guessing reaally close!).
With regards to the firewall settings - is your Windows firewall turned off? You shouldn't run two firewalls simultaneously (though I do not think this is the cause of a bad signal/reception).
POP Wanadoo: pop.wanadoo.co.uk
SMTP Wanadoo: smtp.wanadoo.co.uk
No doubt the Knowledge Base will be updated in time. The old Wanadoo mail server names will probably continue to resolve for a long time (the old Freeserve ones still work 2 years after that re-brand).
having spent over 8 hours trying to get the live box to work (free broadband) i could not get my wireless to work so by chance i did this open up your wirless conection box click on profiles again highlight your wanadoo conection click on properties, then click on security settings make sure that the box on the right has 128bit in it add code and it should work
i am still having problems getting wireless to work again, the software is still not recognising the wireless connection (step 3) i have rang Orange again yesterday and they refused to send a new adaptor (dont ask)
