I had an account with Freeserve from 1998, but my pc broke down in January of this year, so I called Orange to cancel my anytime account with them. I also sent them a cheque for £14-99 for my one month's notice period. Anyway, they started sending me emails, so I was the phone to them several times, and one day they would say that the account was closed, then the next day they would say that it wasn't closed. Anyway, I got a new pc in January as well, and asked Orange for a broadband account, but the new pc turned out to be faulty and I never accessed the net on it so I called Orange and cancelled the broadband account. As it was onlya few days since I had asked for it, I was well inside their one month withdrawl period.
Anyway, I heard nothing more from them until Thursday of last week, when I got a letter through the ordinary post saying that as they had not received any payment from me for my anytime account, they had closed it and I would ahve to send the £19-99 outstanding balance. I called their billing dept, and was told that there was no outstanding balance to pay, and that the cheque I had sent them in Jan. for my one month's notice had gone to my never used and cacelled after a few days broadband account. The girl said she would send a form to their head office asking about the letter they had sent. I also caslled their broadband dept tp ask if any nasty surprises were awaiting me from therm and they said no, and that the broadband account was cancelled on January 29 of this year. But to be honest I feel really worried that I might get more bills from them in future and that they might suddenly decide to charge me for a years broadband and then go on doing this forever. Has anyone else been in this situation with them? I am feeling desparate and unsure of what to do.
