Ok, about a month and a bit ago i got a letter saying i had downloaded to much over my limit.
Ok i acceapt that, so of i went and looked on there site and notice they do a unlimited service for £3 cheaper than my current service.
So i go for that, it all goes through well, but today i get another letter saying i had gone over my allowence and they have now suspended my account and if i was to choose another provider i should ring and ask for a MAC code.
How can i go over my "allowence" if its unlimited??
So i ring them up and request there "mac" code, to be told that my account had been shut down, and the line will take 10 working days to become clear. so half way through Jan, i should be rid of Orange broadband for good!
There is another thread about this, bacially they have a limit of about 45-55GB a month, if you go over this they will start bitching, i recommend you cancel your Direct debit (otherwise they will charge you for nthing atll all), and get a MAC code and move to a decent ISP
If they have already closed your account, and if thay actually have, they dont seem to know what they're doing, yes you will have to wait the 10 days, but make sure you cancel your direct debit to them, so they cant take money for cancellation charges, which they shouldnt because they ended the contract, presuming you are still in your contract
Do you think we should be very diligent and watch Orange carefully?
I mean let's face it, if they're behaving the way they are now then what will happen if and when Orange folds?
Will our bank accounts be plundered before we get told that they have stopped trading?
Big business these days is ruthless, with no thought whatsoever for the customer. You only have to look at the company that left people with no Christmas savings this year. Hey for christ's sake, even our government are ripping us off at every turn. The latest news is that given all the stealth taxes piled on top of our basic taxes it takes until June before we get to keep the money we've worked for since the beginning of the year!
Merry Christmas

Orange Fightback
why do you think Orange will fold. I cant see it happening in 2007 myself at least. However the MAC code issue, one they have closed your account and put a deprovision through the system and the process has started they then do not have the function to create a MAC code within the system that enables them to do this. The system is from BT and everyone usesit unless you have LLU then your really boned.

I'm in a similar position for different reasons. Orange have unilaterally cancelled my broadband account over an "unpaid bill" of - wait for it - 1.2p!
They failed to collect this vast sum from my card by virtue of the fact that they didn't ask for it. Having got them to acknowledge their error I was somewhat taken aback by the casual announcement that the cancellation would still have to take place and that I'd have to re-apply to get my broadband back. Apparently once they've told BT whatever it is they tell BT it's too late to cancel the cancellation (If that makes sense).
Unsurprisingly I've decided that if I'm going to go through a whole new registration process I'll do it with a new supplier and I've sorted out a new provider whose router is in the post. The Orange broadband is working at the moment but I expect it'll disappear any day now.
As a bit of a novice in all this - I tend not to change broadband suppliers every week - could someone confirm for me whether I'll need a MAC code from Orange since they're shutting me down?
There's no point in a MAC for you. The line's being ceased so they can't generate one anyway and even if they could as soon as the cease completes it's pointless as there's then no longer a broadband line to migrate. Just wait until the line is cleared and sign up with whoever you choose.
