I have had this problem for some time now but still have no solution.
I have done a search on the forums and have seen similar things but nothing the exact same.
Basically i have the USB speedtouch modem as the livebox doesnt work and the thing randomly disconnects. Sometimes it can stay up for days, sometimes minutes, sometimes several times a day. I play computer games online so this is a major issue for me.
Sometimes i can reconnect straight away, sometimes it says the post is in use and then i have to reboot in order to reconnect.
That's one of the many problems I had, it'll either just sort itself out, or it'll never get better. Basically it's never stopped doing it for me, I still get randomly disconnect then have to restart to get anywhere. The problems for me have got progressively worse, supposedly now they're doing work on my line that'll last a month.... Thank god I asked for my LLU MAC code.
Just off the phone to them, and u know the most annoying thing, they dont have a clue. I explained really clearly that the random drops can happen anywhere between days to hours. So she then asks me if its doing it now??
I patiently explain wed have to be damn lucky to have it happen when were on the phone and no it isnt disconnected.
So she asks again "what about now?"
This goes on 5 times of her asking the same question and me slowly losing patience till i demand to speak to someone else. And after all that she tells me "its to do with your anti virus" Even though she hasnt done a thing, or got me to do a thing yet she knows this lol. Despite me telling her it done it before i even put AV on lol.
Like speaking to a brick wall.
I just wish i could bin them, but im just tied into a 12 month contract lol.
Ok i have read through other posts and know where I stand now with regards the MAC code etc.
I phoned them today and requested it, but was surprised when they said there notes say I requested one yesterday and it was posted to me due to going over my usage in my ‘unlimited’ contract.
Regardless I requested a new one as I have no idea what they are talking about.
Lets just hope the new ISP sorts out the random disconnects.
I've had freeserve/wanadoo/orange since having internet. Have had livebox, additional laptop, PSP and wii all connected to the internet fine. But in the last 2 weeks have had nothing but connection problems. Lose connection sometimes for minutes sometimes for hours. Despite trying all options of disconnecting/ connecting rebooting.There seems to be no logic to prblem occuring. Phone line works fine. At some stage it even looked as if switching off wii worked. (Now cannot even get through on wii if PC working). Looking at your site seems lots of people are having this problem.My contract with Orange is up (was considering swapping them anyway they were unable to change my email address only have a new one and suprise there doesn't seem to be anyway to provide a new email to Orange on their website so I can't chenge my account details with them!)
Can anyone recommend a more reliable ISP? We are not in a cable area unfortunately.
Well finally managed to get my MAC code after a bit of a fight.
Ive signed up to BE and its in the process of going through.
Orange want a whack of money for cancelling the contract 11 months early but they will have a job getting it.
One qorry is that they may try and get it through my mobile contract as i recently bought my wife an Orange phone but its in my name. At the time it was to coincide with a BB deal but well u know how that went.
So hopefully not to long and ill be connected with BE then i'll terminate the DD.
