At about 12.03 my internet died - so did the connection of the person I was talking to over MSN Messenger at the time.

i regularly get this problem (at least once a fortnight)
the only way to start your connection working again is to get your hands on a usb broadband modem
connect using that, which somehow "forces" a connection, so that your router starts working again

This works for a relatively small number of people who get a specific PPP server down error. It usually has no effect on a connection that drops sync.

yeah i also occasionally get problems that can't be solved using this method, in which case i just have to wait until it sorts itself out (usually a few hours, once a couple of days)
With a real ISP you don't get any problems like that, just a fast stable connection.
As Orange are not a real ISP you get problems - I used to when I was with them too.
