Just spent the last month trying to find out why I do not have the IPStream package I was suppose to be upgraded to in Feb 2006, and it seems BT are rejecting the orders sent in by Orange/Wanadoo/Freeserve.
There is no line fault, there are no problems with SNR Margin, ADSL Attenuation, Distance from Exchange.
I am currently on IPStream 500, (connected at a capped rate of 576 downstream and 288 upstream) and the BTWholesale, and Orange websites say I can get a downstream rate of 2Meg, on an ADSL service, and at least 3Meg downstream rate on ADSL Max service, which are both enabled on my exchange.
Just checked out the last order placed through, on this line, and it was in Feb 2007 for LLU LINE SHARE PSTN, what ever the hell that is. This does not tally at all with what Orange are telling me. ie. IPStream 500 , mind you that was the service that was CEASED on that order.
So according to this I`m on LLU .... News to me!
Ok people....where do I go from here.... All help appreciated... because I am aparently suppose to be signed up to another 12 month contract! And I don`t want to do that, if the line speed is .5Mb for the term, when I signed up for at least 3Meg, which is what I was told!
Having spoken to Orange Broadband customer service, who swear blind, and promise hand on heart that the exchange hasn`t been LLU`d. And I am still on for ADSLMax
I also spoke to BTWholesale, because I don`t trust Orange at the moment (Havent got a clue why?.. LOL) And they are telling me I have an Orange marker on my line...which is fine, and as it should be, and that Orange did place an order for LLU, but later cancelled it.
Everyone still with me?
Ok, so why do you think I am still on 512kB downstream speed?
Ok, so as far as I can glean from all this reading up, and checking line stats, and phone calls.....at this moment in time I am on a non LLU enabled exchange (Taunton - Somerset) WWTAUN, for Orange. I am running on a BTWholesale Service called BT IPStream 500...hence I`m capped at 512kB downstream rate. 288 upstream.
I was suppose to be upgraded to 2Meg downstream rate in Feb 06, but BT wouldn`t upgrade the service, apparently.
I can upgrade further to BT IPStream Max through Orange, and get a 3Meg downstream rate.
This is how I understand things so far.....
So if you check the stats, could I theoretically get 2Meg downstream speeds on current connection, and still be stable?.
Or should I switch to IPStream Max and go for 3Meg downstream?
I`m just trying to log up as much evidence as possible to give, an effective case to Orange, as they are saying Im on fastest speed possible for the line.

If you ask Orange to change anything it will be a new 12 months contract.
If they ceased IPStream 500 then you are on LLU (LLU LINE SHARE PSTN), possibly capped by Orange. LLU is an up to 8Mb service, but many have speed problems.
I am just up the road from you at Weston-super-Mare, I've never seen Taunton exchange mentioned before but Orange do not publish lists of exchanges which have LLU - keeps other ISPs guessing. So it is impossible to work out which exchanges have LLU other than by people publishing stats and info here.
From stats the line can go faster than 576 - the normal cap you see on this site is 608. Something is not right but finding out from Orange will be difficult.
I seem to have jumped the gun, and entered into another 12 month contract with Orange ( that`ll teach me for being Welsh!),that being Orange unlimited up to 8Meg connection, however, if they don`t produce the specified downstream speed they said they would, they are in breach of contract, and selling a service under misrepresentation. I can get out of it that way if they mess me around.
Customer Support have told me to contact them again on Thursday 7/6/07 if the regrade to 3Meg downstream rate does not work...so Orange Broadband is now having a nice break from my incessant calls..... Lucky them
It certainly sounds like you're not in an LLU area. The main thing to know is if the system has ordered the regrade to ADSL Max, if so ask for them to check with specialist provisions when it's due to go through.
Spoken to Customer support, and they say Specialist Provisions say it should go though within the next 3 days, and that it is on code "Echo", whatever that means?
Now all I have to find out is why I was IPStream 500 for the last year, and not upgraded to IPStream 2000, all they are telling me is BTWholesale rejected the order 2 times. Orange won`t tell me why the order was rejected. Well, the billing Guy, said, he didn`t know.
So, I`ve sent them an email requesting information on my account.
Don`t know what`s gonna become of all this, at the moment just feel as if somebody hasnt done what they were suppose to do somewhere, and nobody is pointing any fingers.
Often if the order gets rejected for whatever reason the system simply says that and doesn't give any reason. It may be hard now to find out why it was due to the length of time and because there's a new order going through.
Just got an email from Customer Relations Specialist Customer Action Team. Explaining when I would be on IPStream Max (tomorrow 6/6/07), and apologising for Customer Services inability to answer straight forward questions.
So now got a direct contact with someone further up the chain, and gonna try, and find out why I was on IPStream 500 for so long when was suppose to be on IPStream 2000, since Feb 06.
Keep your fingers crossed, and thanks guys for all the help, I really appreciate it.
I`m now on BT Wholesale IPStream Max, with a download stream rate of 3 Meg, so far been very stable with Noise Margin down to 6Db (fingers crossed).
But still waiting for a reply from Customer Action Team, with reference to the other issue of previous contracts FASTEST UNCAPPED Speed, apparently capped at 512K.
Orange Customer Action Team had admitted their mistake, and given me some freebies to keep me sweet. So, at the end of it all, weeks, and weeks of continuous pressure, I`ve come out with a cheaper faster broadband service, that at the moment is working quite well.....Till the next instalment!
