I was a customer of Freeserve in early 2004 as a dial-up customer, went on Broadband under Wanadoo and upgraded to 3mb Broadband since last year. It should have been an upgrade from 2mb to 5mb but my phone line would only go at 3mb so I still just pay the £17.99. My Broadband speed has been varying from 2.3mb to 3.3mb since then until May 6 when it went down. I phoned the Indian Call Centre Technical Services straight away (after pressing numerous options). Despite numerous calls, reintalling software and doing a "Dr Speedtouch" diagnostic run several times which revealed nothing wrong with PC nor modem I am still offline! (Aaargh!)
Last week I even paid £40 for an independent network administrator to come round to my house to check my computer was connected correctly. He found nothing wrong. It was obviously the line - I even phoned the Orange Technical people and passed the phone to him, once I was through to them and they had cleared my security details, to convince them there was something wrong with the line.
They appear to only have instructed BT to do something on the 24th May - this is the earliest "fault" on my BT phone number recorded on their website. I don't know why they didn't do something about it earlier!
I suggest you move from Orange to a real ISP straight away.
They will do nothing more than fob you off with endless lies and excuses.
If you tell them to give you your MAC code (which they cannot refuse) then use this to move to your new ISP you will not have any problems.
Personally I recommend Idnet as they have been 100% fast, stable, friendly & English speaking staff who care.
The amount of people who post on here, including myself, explaining when they do move there are no more problems is unreal.
Put simply - Orange are a lying, robbing, non-caring disgrace.
Because of changes that Orange have been implementing, the settings that used to work on your computer, probably now don't and that's why you are experiencing problems.......but don't expect Orange to tell you this.
My life has been a nightmare for the last 3months.
Now that I have changed my ISP I finally am a happy person.
All started 19 of March when my connection went down. Since that f**** day I never had signal again. I have spent days on the phone with "Orange Indians Expert Technician" who have lied to me for 2 months. I have even been able to speak with the escalation team for 3 times, but even them have tried to work out my problem.
On the 15 of My I have finally asked for my MAC code, which by the way they have refused to send in first instance because there was a cancellation fee to pay. I have talked to several people in the customer service , mentioning this web site, and they still would not let me go.
So i had to confirm that i would have paid my cancellation fees and only after that they have sent me the MAC(which has arrived 5 day after). I have IDNet now(which I suggest). As soon I had the ok from IDNet I cancelled my DD and guess...I f**** them up, no monay where taken from my account.
Order the Netgear router from IDNet, arrived after 3 days , plugged it in.....surprise...no connection. Now image my face...... call them, English person answer to the phone, tried to syncronize my router....nothing. Line test live...fault foud.
The day after engineer from IDNet where working on the exchange to find the fault. Phone me 3 times, but the problem was not sorted.
Asked me to call BT and tell them that they need to check the connection. After 4 days BT was there, 1 hour...problem solved, for free.
Plugeed in the router..there u go! Slow connection in the beggining, so I have called IDNet to tell them , but they have promise me that the speed would be improving in 3 day. Well just after 2 day I have a rock solid connection at 6.5 MB. Great. This is a serious company, a bit expensive(17.99 , 8MB-5GB). They do not use call center, you call directly in the office. They worked out my problem in 3 days. This is what I call a service. I suggest IDnet to everyone. Leave Orange they do not care, and they never contact BT, since I was speaking with the BT engineer who laughed when I have mentioned my problem with Orange.
Please do not trust them, they will waste your time and monay. Go somewhere else if u really want to enjoy the World Wide Web.

You made a good choice with IDNet pito i used to be with them and like you my migration had to be sorted by IDNet but in my case it was something to do with Orange and at that time IDNet told me that they rarely had a straightforward migration from Orange.

Thanks, folks for your replies. I have PAYG dial-up which I am having to use for a limited internet service. No online radio or TV for me now!
I tried changing the DNS codes as suggested in the other thread but, unfortunately, I am still receiving errors 0680 and 0619 (no dial tone and remote computer not responding). I have XP and restarted the PC just in case it needed it!
A friend suggested going to NTL for internet and phone as he is so glad he does not have to use "third party internet". Does anyone know if NTL need a MAC code? We have cable in our street - it just needs to be brought a few yards from under the pavement to my house.

Try DR TCP and mod your MTU/RWIN settings because of your connection speed change

MTU/RWIN have no effect on an error 680, 619 is probably just a side effect of the 680, all those settings do is manipulate the datestream that is sent after the connection is established.
