After two months offline and repeatedly telling Wanadoo\Ornage what was wrong they finally listened to me and got me back online (downgrading me back to the 2MB IPStream off the LLU).
Well now I'm offline again - I've got a live ADSL link this time though - instead I get an error on my router saying "PPP fail : Timeout in LCP negotiation"
Sometimes I do connect for about 30 seconds to get an error "PPP fail : Peer terminate"
AS I've experienced a terrible service in the past I was prepared - I'd set up a control laptop with a fresh Windows install and connected it to the phone line through Orange's Speedtouch modem (I use a 3com wireless router normally - much better than the Sh*te hardware provided by Orange) - similar error "The PPP Link Control Protocol was terminated"
Called them this morning to talk to a brain dead moron who wouldn't listen and offered to replace my Speedtouch modem - I argued the point saying "I use my own router, the speedtouch is a further test!!!!!!!!" - they then went - "OH - we don't support other equipment" - AAAARGGH there's nothing wrong with the hardware - LISTEN!!!!!!
Anyway managed to squeeze a line check out of them {they still said - could you please keep your Speedtouch modem plugged in} - hopefully they'll find something <<LOL>>.
Anybody know why the LCP is not working properly? Sounds like they've got server problems at their end - but I'm no expert.
From what we have been told its due to sub standard equipment thats all that i could squeeze out of a team leader, there is not many pple that no what the problem is,
We are aware of a problem in the Chrolton (sic) area, which may prevent customers from accessing the internet. Our engineers are working to resolve the problem. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Dialling code(s) affected: 016186 016188
If you've still got the problem, I'd suggest not trying to authenticate for 30 mins to allow any PPP sessions to expire. If no joy then you'll need to get Orange to escalate to BT.
I receive a technical call back and after about 20 minutes of trying [useless - as I said] things I mentioned that I've been downgraded to IPstream from LLU due to 2 months offline [sh*te equipment at the exchange etc].
The agent suddenly put me on hold for 10 minutes - when he came back he said something vague about IPstream being deleted from my exchange due to everybody being LLUed and he needs to change some settings on my account - he'll call back in 10 minutes - that was 6 hours ago and I received no call back
I'm not paying for the broadband at the monent due to my previous problems - I so want to leave Orange - but it looks like I'll Be Broadband longer because I'm going to claim more compensation due to this probem [when it eventually gets sorted]
