Can anyone through some light on the purpose of the second (yellow) RJ-45 socket on the Livebox?
This appears to be a fully functioning Ethernet port - plugging my PC into it results in a successful network connection. If this is the case why is this not mentioned in the documentation?
Background: I received my new Livebox this morning and got it connected up and working with no difficulties. The unit is model number DV4210-WU with DSLVBAR5GBV E2 'Bulk' designation (Firmware version?)
Yep it's a fully working ethernet port and can be used as such with no trouble. It's only real current use is for firmware recovery when good liveboxs go bad.
The red and yellow ports are technically the same although their future use allows them to be reserved for specialist extras such as...
http://configuration.adsl/srv_...tv.html
That address will only correctly work when you're using a livebox, although it may ask for the username and password (both "admin")
found here - google translated, hopefully this link works better than my previous long one
"The current configuration enables you to profit from Internet connection on the yellow Ethernet port, you can connect a computer to it.
By activating the TV over ADSL, the yellow Ethernet port will be used to you to connect a terminal for TV over ADSL, you will not be able to use this port for Internet connection."
hey guys Orange are bringin some major stiff very soon the second yeelow port is handy when u havin server probs coz u can get to config pages normally unloess that playin up aswell
Well it's hardly a secret, they've been running it for a while in France, that other link I found through google, there's some interesting stuff out there if you can find it.
The Livebox is designed with future expandability in mind and has allot
of redundant features built in, this includes Television capability.
Orange currently only has the Livebox Television features working
operationally in France at the moment. We are hoping to bring the
Television functions of the Livebox on line in the future in the UK but
cannot provide any specific timescale for this.

If you need to translate the website into english you could try the
I use the red one to connect to my computer and the yellow one for my xbox. Is there any difference running my computer through a usb cable to the live box ? There is still 2 holes empty where you plug the power supply in are these useful for anything ?

I wouldn't recommend that, it should work fine but the USB system really isn't that good for broadband, especially at over 2 meg. Ethernet takes less work for the PC to get at the data compared.

The ports are in order...
Power port
RJ11 - goes to the phone socket for the broadband
RJ11 - used to connect a phone to the talk service
"something" often under a sticker - some sort of disused serial port, I believe it's been disabled.
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. As I'm planning on leaving Orange, I'll laugh .
I was speaking to the Livebox support, yes Livebox support, who on being told by me that I'd got a second PC connected to the Livebox (Yellow port), replied that she'd never heard of that before.
Fancy, a customer using both ethernet ports!
