I've used a Speedtouch 300 on an XP machine for over a year and in March, bought a new Vista PC. This also connected fine with the Speedtouch until last week. Since then, it gives an error 721. The Orange helpline person went through the usual checklist with no success. I've tried reinstalling the latest drivers, but this doesn't help.
I still have my old XP machine. so just as an experiment, I tried that and it connected without any problems (which is how I can post this). Emailed Orange, but just got back a link to a page on the website which I'd already read.
There's clearly nothing wrong with the modem, or the line. Under Vista, the diagnostics program for the speedtouch shows line synchronised. I've switched off my firewall without success.
Are any other Vista users having the same problem? Of course it may be that they are, but don't happen to have another machine they can connect with!

My daughter recently had a similar problem with her new Vista laptop. When I set it up for her I connected using the modem for my XP machine. When she went BB with Orange the 330 modem they sent wouldn't work for her. On contacting Orange helpline she was asked to call back at a certain date and time when "...there should be someone here who knows about Vista..." Not satisfied with the arrangement, she insisted the someone ring her. They did and told her the modem software was not yet available for Vista.
Not believing this explanation, I searched the Thomson Speedtouch website, found the new driver disc and ordered it. It arrived the next day for the cost of £2.00 P&P. It was installed and all is running well for her at the moment... well that is except only being able to send and receive mail intermittently through her Orange account - but that's good for Orange, isn't it?

Error 0721 Remote PPP peer is not responding, or something along those lines is the exact same error as PPP server down which you'd get on a livebox. Basically caused by a sh***y LLU network and problems in assigning IP addresses correctly. Shouldnt be anything to do with your drivers etc. Although amaking a manual connection does sometimes resolve the problem.
What else can you tell us Mr.An_ex_orange_employee? by that imean how long roughly was you working for Orange and what have you heard about speed connections ? what are they gonna do about it? is there anything in the pipeline for it? are they concerned about the request of possible MASS migration? (I mean has the higher archy noticed) is there a plan being put out to give their customers proper support? is the word loyalty recognised? any feed back please would be a great start Mr. An_ex_orange_employee Don't get me wrong thanks for posting the posts you've done, it's as you know so many are so p***** off with the verbal dyhorea that's thrown around by them. Maybe you could post a few phone no's. or contact area's we don't know about, or even point us in a back door direction? Ian.

Well, I've finally got connected again on Vista. I tried doing a system restore to well before the problem occurred. This didn't help and caused my anti-virus software to go haywire. I therefore undid the restore which resulted in my Speedtouch not being recognised. I installed the drivers again and this time got a connection. Very odd, as uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers is something I'd tried before without success. During all these problems, I'd been able to connect using my XP machine without problems.
