YES....I have finally decided to leave Orange!! I made the call today for my MAC code. And after being told to call 3 different numbers (which is crap because I was able to be transferred from there “help india” number to the customer care number a few weeks ago without ringing back....honestly I think Orange are trying ANY tactics to get people not to leave....hoping you will get fed-up phoning different numbers *sigh* )
This is my second attempt to get my MAC code after weeks of crap speeds. The first time I was talked into staying by upgrading my 1meg speed to 8meg at half the monthly price I was already paying. I thought I would give it a try, foolishly thinking that upgrading to the 8meg might indeed improve my speed problem. During the day my speed tests are normally 5.5mbps, but at peak times I am still only getting 0.1 to 0.4 mbps.
The person I spoke to on the phone today tried to tell me that by activating my MAC code I would incur a cancellation fee. I politely told her that I didn’t say I was activating it, I only said I was applying for it. But she kept insisting that I did I realise I would incur a cancellation fee by activating it. I told her I hadn’t decided yet if I would activate it, and was only applying for it, but would probably decide over the next few days whether or not I would use it. Eventually I had to be rude and ask her if she knew the difference between APPLYING for the code and ACTIVATING it, because I certainly knew the difference.
Then she tried to stall me even further by saying that the 8meg service I had applied for 2 weeks ago had not taken effect yet and why didn’t I stay until it did and I might see a difference in speeds then. So I asked why they had sent me an email 4 days after to say my new speed HAD indeed be activated. (Honestly the lies they tell to make you stay is appalling).
My only hope now is that they don’t cancel my account and I am without broadband for 10 days until my line is cleared. Fear of this happening is one of the only reasons I haven’t moved before now.
As for the cancellation fee, well I will cross that bridge when I come to it, but lets just say they will have as hard a time getting it from me as I have had trying to get my MAC code from them!
One ironic point I must make is that during my first call to them today, the “help india” guy apologised while he was talking my details because “his system was so slow today”. I said “join the club mate, you wouldn’t happen to be with Orange broadband are you”? Sadly I think my attempt at humour went totally over his head
After weeks and weeks of slow speeds and being virtually unable to play WoW at peak times, all of a sudden after applying for my MAC code on Friday morning I am getting great speeds and virtually no latency problems all weekend in WoW.
