As a London Orange broadband customer I found to my disappointment to have no internet connection this morning. For some unexplained reason I thought I might ring the Orange customer support.
The issue was apparently due to a "known server outage".
At 9am I was told that the problem would be fixed within the hour. Obviously it wasn't.
At 12noon I was told that the problem would be fixed by 2pm. Obviously it wasn't.
At 5:30pm I was told it would be at least another 24 hours before it was fixed. Ten minutes later it is now apparently working!
I'm pleased my connection is back, but now part histerical with how amateurish this service is
Meanwhile I've requested my MAC code, surely they can't screw that up!?!
I'm going to start my own ISP as a rival, I've already got two yoghurt pots if anyone can lend me a length of string ...
I've been promising myself I'd request this next time I had an outage. It was a real pleasure to ring them up and ask for it.
They started asking me if I was using the Speedtouch modem to connect. I said, "Don't start making out it's my fault. Just give me my MAC."
"No need to be rude Sir," came the reply. LOL. They haven't heard me being rude. They'll know about it if I don't get the MAC within 5 working days (as promised).
Just signed up with Waitrose. To think I'll soon be free of Orange. Ooh, I can't wait

Meanwhile, in sunny Stratford, E15, Orange sales reps are recruiting more internet fodder. My wife was asked if she would like to join Orange. On being told that she was already a customer the sales rep seemed genuinely pleased. However, when she added that the service was terrible and that we're thinking of switching to another ISP, their pleasure turned to confusion and an embarrassed silence.
String ISP...the sales reps are using Orange string in Stratford Shopping Centre this week but it keeps breaking. You can tell, you see, by the number of knots and random, useless loops that keep appearing.
As for last weekend's connection problem, Stratford also seemed to be out of action for a few hours. This was no great hardship since we've undergone a thorough Pavlovian training programme (courtesy of the Orange Comedy Team) and are quite used to being disconnected now.
Friends in Poplar have been without a Broadband 'service' since last week. Orange have put them on a dial-up service and are charging them for both the non-existent Broadband 'service' and the dial-up one! Needless to say, another dissatisfied customer will be asking for their MAC code any day now - Orange 'Customer Service' strikes again.
The future's bright, the future's...damn, where's that connection got to, now?

Ohh, I can't wait until they do that to me. I'll very much enjoy asking them about the appalling service and crap technical support. Yes, I like to watch sales drones squirm.
As for the outage - I'm in Ilford (E12) and it was also down. I heard the service was back around 5pm but I was out of the country enjoying a well deserved break.
just a month to go until I move house and dump the pile of crud that calls itself Orange.
