I am a pretty patient person, but things just seem to be getting worse.
I now seem to be able to send emails from Outlook Express after having very erratic behaviour for over 2 months, but now I am not getting email
I have had only one or two emails today, but I am expecting emails from tickmaster, work, ebay, forums etc, but nothing is being received.
I tried sending from work and I get "Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: DNS Error: Domain name not found
From another pc I get "username.*******.fslife.co.uk - domain not recognized"
What the heck is going on.
I called Orange and they assured me there is nothing wrong and its my security settings "speak to Microsoft and they will sort you out no problem" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have now just set up a google mail account so I can start changing over as I am fed up with it. I wont leave Orange because I love the free calls I get with the Livebox.

Hi garyw
This is well spotted!
We have taken a look at the various Orange settings that users may have and these are the results (for MX records and mail servers):
wanadoo.co.uk - CNAME wanadoo.uk.com - mail servers found
freeserve.co.uk - CNAME freeserve.net - mail servers found
fsnet.co.uk - CNAME freeserve.net - mail servers found
fsbusiness.co.uk - CNAME freeserve.net - mail servers found
fsworld - CNAME freeserve.com - mail servers found
fslife.co.uk MX RECORDS: ERROR: I couldn't find any MX records for fslife.co.uk. If you want to receive E-mail on this domain, you should have MX record(s). Without any MX records, mailservers should attempt to deliver mail to the A record for fslife.co.uk. I can't continue in a case like this, so I'm assuming you don't receive mail on this domain.
MAIL SERVERS: ERROR: I could not find any mailservers for fslife.co.uk.
orangehome.co.uk MX RECORDS: ERROR: I couldn't find any MX records for orangehome.co.uk. If you want to receive E-mail on this domain, you should have MX record(s). Without any MX records, mailservers should attempt to deliver mail to the A record for orangehome.co.uk. I can't continue in a case like this, so I'm assuming you don't receive mail on this domain.
MAIL SERVERS: ERROR: I could not find any mailservers for orangehome.co.uk.
orange.co.uk - all OK
orange.com - all OK
orange.net - all OK
So, essentially, anybody with an email address ending in fslife.co.uk or orangehome.co.uk will have problems accessing and sending email via these servers
We would be grateful to hear from any users who have one of the affected email addresses to see whether indeed you are able or not to send emails.
These are new member registrations and also notifications of replies to posts...
Please be aware that the issue is not with our servers!
If you are having difficulty in signing up with one of the above email addresses, may we suggest that you use another email address (e.g. GoogleMail, Yahoo or Hotmail etc.).
I tried sending from work and I get "Technical details of permanent failure:

I have exactly this problem with an fslife address, Several friends have texted me to tell me. I am loosing loads of email - and not for the first time.
Orange customer service have been truly DREADFUL - tell me there is no problem. Since Orange took over this =service has gone from pretty fair under Freeserve/Wannadoo - to just DREADFUL.
Several people in Orange customer services need to be fired.
When I have (very occasionally) requested help from freeserve/wannadoo before - I have been treated reasonably efficiently and with courtesy.
Orange were (a) totally inefficient, (b) implied I was stupid and at fault, (c) refused to escalate my call (I was at all times polite). In the end I was in effect told it was my problem (not possible with this type of fault) - and to go away and fix it myself.
I don't think any other call centre has been more unhelpful than Orange ever in my experience
Hi,
Apologies that we don't know as much about computers as most of you do, but we are tearing our hair out that we are not recieving .fslife.co.uk emails (well 90% of them). Emailing from fsnet to fslife works, but emails we have expected from overseas and my workplace gets the error 'permanent failure;DNS error domain not found'. Like I say, we are not too technical, but we have rang Orange (as we cannot recieve an on-line reply!), wasted about £10 (at 50p per minute) to be told that they have a problem with some email addresses and the problem will be rectified in 24hrs. Well we are now over that, it started at 10pm yesterday for us and I just want to receive these very important emails!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can anyone advise/help??
Much appreciated.

As promised above, we have contacted Orange (via their Press Office) to tell them of this problem and told them how to fix it (with links to this post!).
We have also contacted a number of Internet-/IT-/Computer-related news websites who may also push Orange into getting this easy-to-resolve problem resolved!
If, even without any great computer knowledge, I can spot there is a problem by running a DNS lookup why can't Orange staff respond more reasonably?
I recommend telling them to google "fslife.co.uk" and then to click on all the www. links that result. None of them work - "Server not found" error message.
This problem started nearly 24 hours ago, but Orange haven't responded. If there is a 'server status' bulletin on their website, I can't find it. For good practice on that front I recommend Demon - their POP3 server was down for a couple of hours this evening and a message was immediately posted on their bulletin and on their support line, informing enquirers about the problem and that they were doing something about it. Needless to say, they solved it and blocked mail has come through.
Frustrated on behalf of colleagues signed up to Orange.

Thank you so much for all your help.
I cannot understand why Orange are so bad yet Freeserve/Wanadoo were brilliant.
To cap it all I now cannot send emails again - this has been well over 2 months now!!!!!
Opened up googlemail accounts last night and can send and receive email through Windows Email (Vista Outlook Express) without problem.
Wierd thing is I seem to get some email that is makred as SPAM
I think the final fly in the ointment is the way they just dismiss there is any problem, tell you your settings are wrong and will not listen.
PS thanks to others who have helped with this problem
To really add fuel to the fire - The fix is actually quite easy as it's just a matter of a special type of DNS record in Orange's DNS servers that tell it where the mail servers are.
The fix itself is a 5 minute job but it can take 24-48 hours to replicate around the DNS servers on the net.
Either way, Deleting the mail exchanger records is incredibly incompetent.
