I came home today to a letter and a bag from Orange saying "As you are leaving us please send our equipment back in this bag" WTF!!! this was news to me. I called them and apparently they have terminated my account due to ecessive usage in the last month - but they cannot tell me how much as they have closed the account. I asked if was supposed to get any sort of warning about this and the first chap i spoke to in outer mongolia or wherever their useless helpdesk is said they sent me an e mail. I asked when as I have all mails ever sent to that account - and he said we dont keep records of that. The thing that has got me the most is that in the last month i have spent 2 weeks in Egypt and 2 weeks working away from home so excessive ussage HAS to be a joke. After arguing for 30 mins it transpires there is nothing they can do about it but they are 100% happy to RE REGISTER me as a new user. I asked why they were cancelling me if thyey were happy to register my custom and they could not answer this. Also as they have cancelled the connction they tell me they cannot give me a MAC code. I cannot sign up with anyone else because they need a MAC code and BT tell me its up to Orange to release the line. Does anybody know of anyone i can contact as this whole situation is a joke.
That's a warning for the rest of us........although it could be a new way of attempting to tie you into a new 12 month contract !! But look on the bright side.......you are rid of Orange aren't you.

Normally it's a warning letter/email (think it's usually letter) followed up by cancellation.
As the account is cancelled there will be a cease on the line which is why they can't provide the MAC, however once the cease completes, usually upto 10 working days, then you can signup as normal with whichever provider you choose.
Hi everyone.
Similar problem here.
For a few days I had no wireless and talk working so I emailed Orange.
No useful answer until I received the famous letter saying "Now you're no longer using your broadband equipmenthere's the prepaid returns bag you need to send back to us." I thought of a mistake so I email them again and they tell me that my account is closed so I should contact the customer support team. I do so and speak to an indian guy who told me "too much download". So i ask what i can do and he told me nothing.
Great, thanks for your help!
I never received any warning or notice of my account being closed so I was really surprised.
I thought I respected the usage allowance avoiding peak times. But after reading this forum i discovered that... not really.
Ok I download, that's why i took unlimited downloads along with free phone calls as my family is abroad.
By now I just have internet working, but for how long? I don't know.
I emailed them again trying to get more info and will post here again.
That's the first time i see anything like that and I must say I am not really pleased.
If you can advise me on what to do next, please let me know as I had enough bad surprises!
Cheers.
As I understand it your net connection will work for up to 10 days after they cancelled the service - so based on this mine will be stopped tomorrow. I Have been told it will take a further 10 days for them to remove the marker from the line and then you can go with another provider. So my advice would be to ring india again and find out when the service was actually cancelled and that should give you an idea of when your net will stop working. I am in the process of writing to a guy called Eric Abensur (I had to argue a hell of a lot to get this name) who apparently is head of customer services (he must be so proud of his dept)

All over the country people are no longer opting for a loney escape from Orange by hanging themselves in their attics - they just exceed their download allowance. It's so simple. I would strongly recomend it to all Orange members - download exceedance that is - not hanging yourself in the attic.

At less than 500k (on a 8Mbps service!) download exceedance might prove a challenge
