I know this is an old problem but I received my Live box a couple of days ago and have been trying to set my broadband up all evening. I have had the email telling me it is ok to do and have got as far as having the @flashing slowly. When I go through the set up procedure I get the "It looks like there's a problem...." message with the error code 601 faintly at the bottom. looking at things it points towards there being a problem with my user name/password and directs me to the configure page - unfortunately this won't open at all so I'm stuck. I've phoned the helpline which spends about 5 minutes directing me to a premium rate (50p a minute) number which I am not going to ring. I'm not completely computer illiterate but have got to the stage where it will go through the window any second - can anyone help? Thanks.
Click on the "Access to the configuration pages" link, then choose My Services from the menu on the left, then Internet.
If you are prompted to login, the username is admin and the password is admin.
Then insert your username and password for connection to the internet.

Connection password=your password
Hi, thanks for the reply. I think I've finally got to the root of the problem and it is that I seem to have lost my LAN connection - any advice on getting it back?
That's the problem, the LAN connection seems to have vanished. I can connect to the internet using 3 other dial-up servers. If I try and create a new connection I either end up with a new account somewhere or go through the set up network process but nothing happens, I never get the LAN connection icon. It isn't listed in my device manager and I've tried all sorts of things with my start-up discs but can't seem to get anywhere. I'm out of my comfort zone now so would appreciate any basic-ish advice.

First trick is turn computer and router off for 10 mins then router on followed by computer.
TO TEST NETWORK CONNECTION:
(Start - All Programs - Accessories)
Open Command Prompt
Ping 192.168.1.1 -t
Control C to stop
For info purposes this command does a continuous loopback ping to the router. Without the -t it only does it 4 times. Its a means of quickly checking connectivity between PC and router.
If no connection will say:
Destination host unreachable.
Check into Network Connections through the control panel. Double click your local area connection. What status does it show? If connected go into the support tab, what does it show in there?
You could also right click the connection and repair it.
There could be a problem with network card or drivers - first try re-installing drivers - re-boot computer.
If still no luck I would physically take network card out of computer - re-boot computer, then turn off. Re-install network card and allow XP to to find and install it.
Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to admit defeat though. I've tried everything including delving into the computer innards but I still can't get my comp to recognise the network card. Nothing seems to work - no my brain won't accept the fact the I can use the internet with dial-up but not get a Lan connection so I think the box will be going back and I'll stick to dial-up.

This may sound rude but are you sure that you have a network card in the computer and that it is connected to the Livebox through either the red or yellow port on the side of the Livebox?
I'm pretty sure it's there. I remember there being a LAN connection in the past on my computer, I always wondered what it was for - the thing I took out had Broadcom (BMC94212/1) on it - I was hoping that was thenetwork card but I am worried it's just something to do with the moden and not the network card - (this probably makes me sound like I don't have a clue - I don't really). When I plug the red cable in something lights up and I thought that was a pretty good sign too - but I could be wrong. My computer is about 5 years old though so it's probably time to get a new one which will be my likely solution!
Dont worry too much. Network cards are fairly cheap - even at PC World (£7.99 last time I looked). Just make sure it is the right card for your PC motherboard - probably PCI.
