Hi.
I am a British ex-pat living in France. Hoping that someone in the UK can help because I still have difficulty communicating in French.....
I have been using Broadband for about a month via a Sagem Livebox with WinXP and an Ethernet connection. Apart from occasional unavailability of service, it has worked reasonably well.
I recently bought a Wi-Fi dongle and tried to connect wirelessly, but although I was able to connect to the Livebox, the setup software always reported a failure on the line test. I tried to install this several times but was always able to reinstall the Ethernet connection over the top of the existing software.
At the latest attempt to revert to Ethernet, I was unable to reinstall. The setup software reported a failure to connect to the Livebox and suggested that the Ethernet cable was not connected. I tried all the obvious things, including a different cable and removing the previous installation, to no avail. BUT, I was able to install successfully in a different partition also running XP.
So it looks like a software problem. but I can't pin it down..... Any suggestions?
In Control Panel - Click on Network Connections
Click on Local Area Connection
Click on Properties
Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) from menu and click on it
Check Obtain an IP Address automatically and click OK
Go back to Local Area Connection and right-click
Click Repair
Hope this may help someone else.......
