It seems they won't fix it because they know it's broken.
I quote from the email I have just received from their customer "service" department, after telling them the they have 14 days to fix my connection problems or I will regard ORANGE as being in default of our agreement:

done a lot of the diagnostics required already so if you are still

than happy to quickly re-check these diagnostics with yourself before
submitting a line test if needed. If further investigation is needed we
will submit the test to our engineers to work on to try and fix the
problem as soon as possible.
Once again we apologise for the inconvenience caused and if you have any
further queries then please do not hesitate to get in contact with us
again.
