I think I need some advice...
I signed up for Orange broadband last week, but I stupidly didn't read any reports about them before signing up, obviously I think I would have reconsidered if I had have done! They've been my dial-up provider since they took over Wanadoo and I'd been with Freeserve for eight years before Wanadoo took over them, and never ever had a problem with them, so I just assumed that the broadband service would be as good and didn't even think that it might be a good idea to shop around.
Anyway, from what I can gather it seems to be the LLU lines that are causing problems, but my local exchange isn't LLU enabled. Can anyone tell me what this means - do you think I'll have fewer problems with Orange or more problems?
Sorry, I'm kind of clueless when it comes to these matters...
Thanks for all your help,
Jai

PS: Before you all tell me to just cancel, I signed on for the unlimited broadband, to which there is no 30 day trial period...

Then again it might not be all bad, the fact your exchange hasn't been LLU'd, means your connection is being handled by someone who does have an idea (BT). My understanding of LLU is your service provider (Orange) installs it's own equipment in the BT exchange for dealing with it's customers' broadband. Ideally this will lighten the load on the BT side, improve service (dedicated hardware & engineers), and all will be happy.
The reality (sadly for me and many others) is Orange
a) decided to upgrade our exchange without telling us
b) installed faulty or untested hardware
c) switched us over , praying the new hardware would work
d) denied anything was wrong, even though they knew damn well there was.
Like yourself, I started with Freeserve, Wanadoo, and then (sigh!) Orange.
Up until my exchange was upgraded, I was quite happy with the service (It worked and I didn't have any reason to call their truly appalling Cust/Tech support)
I only found out about the 'upgrade' over dial-up,2 days after I had lost my broadband completely. Though I questioned this many times with Orange, they constantly denied anything was wrong with it. After 2 months of lies and broken priomises - no progress was made so I cancelled my contract and am glad to be well rid of them.
So, you may be ok, and hope they leave your exchange well alone.
