Forgive me if this has already been gone over, but I cannot get my pc (running Windows XP) to connect to the livebox. I've wired the livebox up as per the instructions, followed all the other instructions to the letter, and yet I still get the same error: unable to connect to livebox. Possible cause: your firewall may be turned on.
Well, it isn't. I've turned every single bit of security/firewall off. I've checked that I've connected it correctly, gone through the various "solutions" on the help screen, trawled the internet for solutions....nothing seems to work. I still get the same error.
Before I give up and switch ISP (preferably one that doesn't require me to have a degree in computing in order to go wireless) can anyone suggest anything? Is it something really obvious that I'm not doing? I don't claim to have the faintest idea about techie stuff....
Possibilities....excluding PC security stuff....
Entering the wrong or incorrect WEP key,
Not pressing 1 to put the livebox into pairing mode,
Interference needing the livebox channel to be changed,
Wireless security type conflicts where you'd need to change the setting in the livebox.
The last two are a bit more technical, though the sticky thread should give more info on them and things to try.

Sorry, major RL problems so this kind of paled into insignificance. Thanks for all the advice. I'm pretty sure I pressed the 1 pairing button when connecting, but I'll try it again, and then try all the other suggestions.
Thanks again

I have exactly the same problem... and I didn't even try to go wireless.
The @ light is flashing slowly (1 per sec about) and I try to uninstall everything and start again, but absolutely no changes. Can anyone give any advice. It is maybe because the connection to the internet is not totally fixed, I was supposed to be able to go yesterday, but nothing worked.
I will try again later, mabye if I unplug the livebox from the electric socket and try from begining.

The @ light flashing slow means it's one of two potential problems. Either your username and/or password are wrong or you're getting the PPP server down error.
Really, forget the software, it's much much easier and quicker plus you can find out for sure what the error is by checking manually.
Make sure the livebox is wired up both to the phone line and PC, follow the CD if you like but once it completes or gives an error exit it and do the following:
Open internet explorer,
Put in 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press enter,
You should get a livebox page, click the link there,
Enter the username and password for the box that comes as both "admin" and ok it,
You should now be at the main menu,
Click Services and then Internet,
Enter the username and password for your account and click validate,
When the page comes back check what the status says,
If it's not Connected, Invalid ADSL Authentication, Synchronised or PPP Server down click the refresh link at the bottom after a few seconds and recheck. Keep going until you get one of the above messages.
Connected means you're ready to go.
Invalid ADSL...etc and Synchronised means there's a problem with your username and/or password. Re-enter it but if it comes up the same call Orange and they should be able to get that sorted pretty quick.
If you get PPP server down then it means there's a problem, usually at the exchange preventing you from logging in. For this you'd need to contact Orange, they'll want to check through some things and will probably end up putting through a line test.

This suggests that possibly you have not got wires connected up correctly or there is a fault:
with the network card in your computer - is it installed correctly
the network cable - try another cable
the network socket on the Livebox - if you are using the red socket try the yellow one.
Check into Network Connections through the control panel. Double click your local area connection. What status does it show? If connected go into the support tab, what does it show in there?

The satus is activated, and on the support tab I have a diffrent IP address each time I restart the computer, normal as I am in automatically set up for IP address and DNS server.
I phone Orange technical support yesterday, Answer from them, "It must be your computer, you should try with a more recent one, as we can't tell you if there is a problem with the livebox, if you can't rasch the configuration page" .... Great, because I have an old computer, that means I can't use it to go on the net.....
I will see with a friend if we could access to the configuration page with her laptop, and then decide what I'm gonna do.
Thanks for your help anyway.
Hi all. It was my laptop which was the weakest link...
I've tried to connect to the configuration page with a friend 's computer, and it worked perfectly.
I need to sort out the software problem, but should'nt be very difficult.
Did you try pressing the 1 pairing button when connecting?
I'm pretty sure I did, but I'll give it another go in case I missed something really obvious....
Update: I gave up in the end and got someone out to fix it who knew what they were doing. Needless to say, he made it all look easy, but I wouldn't have known where to start....
